hello

does anyone know where i can get a table that measures roughly

120cm (W) x 80cm (D) x 73cm (H)

doesnt have to be exacly that, but near to.

before you all accuse me of being lazy, the reason I am asking on here is because I have looked on ikea/in argos/some other stores and i can't find a *Plain* table. I don't want all these fancy drawers and storage areas or backs.

I just want a table. i.e a a slab of wood with 4 legs. nothing else. Can't seem to find these anywhere.. :/

anyone?

cheers

that looks like the right thing, it however it doesn't specify a height? as it's going to be next to another desk, with equipment on both it needs to be nearly the same height

heightwise all tables are pretty much the same. suggest you give them a ring tomorrow and confirm :)

have you tried local furniture stores?

failing that its incredibly easy to make your own :)

buy the legs you like from Ikea, and get the top from a local timber merchat by getting them to cut some wood/plywood etc to your spec, then sand and varnish :)

done that myself twice now and no problems, once for a small table and once for my office desk.

trouble with local stores, they tend to be quite expensive, and i really don't have much to spend on this.

I may go down the build it myself route, but that will have to be a summer holiday job i feel!

for the wood a timber merchant will be able to do you a top with a decent thickness for £10-£50 depending on how thick you want.

i did a desk with 150mm and its solid as a rock. failing that find a table you like is a 2nd hand shop and get chopping :)

Best table you will ever find is that you build yourself. MDF is both cheap and easy to join. Easy painted also so £100 at most would make you a custom unit ;)

MDF does not need a varnish however you can choose paints and try them before hand. The secret is take your measurements for the desk and decide how many bits of wood you need. Don't try to cut MDF yourself - get it cut at the wood shop and a nice coat of varnish usually does the trick.

yes, looking like the custom built is the best way.

So once i've built it, filed it, sanded it, what next? varnish? :)

thats the beauty, you choose the finish :)

i just oiled it mine. if your using it as a dining table then varnish is a good idea, otherwise a simple varnish will do with a cloth.
