Hi folks!

For the last 3 weeks we've been experiencing excruciatingly slow ADSL speeds as low as 100kbps from our ISP (BT....). Having eliminated every possibility of problems with the line, wiring, router problems etc. we're now being told that we've got problems with our virtual path from the DSLAM in the exchange to the ATM backhaul.

I'm not convinced that BT are going to be able to improve things and I'm now considering moving providers, but it's who to go with. Our exchange is LLU and O2, BE and Sky are all in there etc so we're fortunate to have a choice.

If an ISP has their own equipment in a BT exchange and offers LLU products, does their euipment have their own ATM backhaul and virtual paths on to the main ATM cloud/backbone and if so, is there anyway to know how congested their network will be compared to BT, or is just pot luck?

Anyone got any advice or suggestions? :)

I'm a great believer in you get what you pay for.

If you can get an LLU service from Be or O2 you're normally pretty safe with them (at the moment I wouldn't recommend any Enta resellers).

The best non LLU ISP's at the moment IMO are AAISP and Zen. AAISP also sell lines on Be's backhaul, they also monitor the network very closely and will likely spot faults before you do - and also get them fixed. A quick look at their service status blog would give you some idea of just how much of a hard time they give BT ;)
