Finding choosing the next car hard :/

Some SUVs might look OK but nobody ever thinks "oooo nice". Basically for school runs or old people. Any bloke driving one.... His wife made them buy it.

So... I ended up (this weekend) almost buying a Kamiq by Skoda

Book a test drive for the Peugeot e-2008, it has every thing you want in terms of tech and is reasonably powerful, and given the electric drive train it is great for when you are doing city driving or overtaking. Personally I don't like the 'SUV' style cars, but I could live with the e-2008 without feeling like a knob in a Range.

There are some hateful looking SUVs but this blanket hate for SUVs is like people who can't accept automatic gears have their place in driving.

Personally quite like the look of the late model Pathfinder as well.

Audi RS Q8?

Tiguan R Line with the Black package is not hateful either.

This is what I mean about differing opinions. I'd expect to find more people who think 'what an arrogant ****' about someone driving an RSQ8 than people who think 'ooh nice car' :p

I don't hate SUV's - infact there are very few cars I genuinely hate except the Volkswagen Transporter T5 and T6, but having driven several extensively (ie took an Audi Q7 up the West Coast of Australia and an X5 around Italy and the Alps, both current model cars) I can't really get on with them. They seem offer no real practicality benefits over the estate cars on which they are based, but handle worse, use more fuel, are slower and cost significantly more money. There was much I liked about the X5 but absolutely nothing about wasn't also present in the 5 Series Touring.

In some specific environments they work well - my sister lives out on Dartmoor and has to negotiate muddy pothole strewn tracks on a daily basis and thus has an X3 - but most of the time its a shame to see these things replacing the estate car.

I get why people might think that but some of the new model Audi SUVs with the right package look pretty mean and well put together in the flesh. Though not really one for me but still.

With roff on this. Don't get all the hate for SUVs, but guess it's trendy to be on the suv hate band wagon?

Just go with what you want/like and if what people perceive of you is a factor then so be it; yes it's vain but whether people like to admit it or not, it's something that comes into play in every day life.

One thing I don't like, which is less of an issue with an estate, many SUVs ride way worse even than my pickup with tons of body roll, you feel every bump magnified, poor turning circle or alternatively they go over the top trying to solve it and feel vague and harsh - only a few models seem to have solved that.

I quite like an SUV. I liked my Range Rovers when I had them, and would be happy to buy a Disco 4 / 5 in the future. But as Fox, and many others, have already stated, they offer little over and above theri estate car counterparts, other than an elevated seating position. But there are some nice looking SUV's out there. My old man recently bought a Skoda Kodiak, and it is a nice motor for sure.

Glad I bought a T6.1 then... :p

[1] I wanted an SUV or cross-over - why? I have no idea, is it because you sit a bit higher? Maybe. Is it because it can more easily fit a bike in? Maybe. But at the end of the day I prefer the SUV style and look with *the only exception* being the 3 series touring.
[2] I want all the tech... ALL OF IT, active cruise control, lane assist, big infotainment screen, digital dials. Do it need it? Hell no. Do I really really want it... YES.
[3] I must be in the same power range as the Civic (so 140BHP +) and preferable not something with a Diesel like turbo lag...

Try the Toyota CHR? I mean, it's nothing flashy, but gets the job done and kind of ticks these boxes.

I'll try to get some pics up later.

Buy what makes you happy and meets your needs and screw what anyone else thinks no?

I've never understood this weird obsession with people wanting to buy cars based on what others think. I couldn't give a monkey's what other people think about my car, I'd drive a Barbie Jeep if it made me happy.
