Finding it impossible to find a decent CRT

Contrast/black value issues of LCD is still the same.
Viewing angle issues are all here.
And response times are balancing against overshoots.

Actually OLED is still in vapour ware stage.
Where are all those replaces everything else OLEDs hyped like decade ago?
Only OLED monitors available are those rule confirming exceptions that there are no OLED monitors to replace LCDs.

Heck, OLED hype even killed development of SED, which could have given CRT's contrast/black, viewing angles and response times in LCD like flat panel!
I meant that the Oled was the first buy since the flatscreen era, where my expectation from hype around true blacks was met and I was happy to get back something lost. Although, I still think a top crt is better at near black.
Id snap up a crt if the impossible happened, and a 27" 4k 16:9 144 hz screen was released. Id make room for that monster :D

I still use a CRT, my GDM-FW900. And from what I read about people's thoughts on CRT I am of the opinion that they are unaware of how good CRTs are. Well sure now a QD-OLED might be better, any LCD is not better than a good CRT overall. With my FW900 I have perfect blacks, I have good colours. The colours on the FW900 are so good that it was the go to display for the film industry. I have 2304 x 1440, if I wanted to could go higher and in theory have 3840 x 2400 (at 48hz only). You can also tune the monitor to get everything perfect, not sure about every LCD but I don't think that is common to have a service port where you can fine tune the display.

You also can have any resolution you like that is within the horizontal refresh rate range. Game doesn't run at 1440p, try 1320p or 1200p or 1000p or what ever you like. You can also have non-square resolutions, you have a 16:10 resolution but a 4:3 image (320 x 200, for example) no problem. And furthermore lower resolutions and refresh rates look better on a CRT, you get a lot more out of your hardware with a CRT.

And the thing is, its has been a while since people have been saying that CRTs are meaningless, its been a while since a lot of people threw out their CRTs in favour of a LCD. And for the majority of people when they "upgraded" to an LCD it was just a massive downgrade. 11 years ago people through I was strange for still using a CRT, and then there was absolutely no doubt which was better, it didn't even come close. It's just that if the CRT wasn't calibrated its easy to see an LCD as better, and CRT aren't exactly the most convenient (seriously, you need two people to move the FW900).

As for the OP's original question that no one has actually answered, there are two GDM-FW900 on ebay at the moment, one that is in good condition but that has been tamped with for current £640 (buy it now for £6,500) and another that is not in great condition, buy it now for £1,075.

Here are some videos on the FW900.

The GDM-FW900 is a great monitor and I'm on the lookout for one of those! But I'm not paying the prices people want on ebay.

I've got the BVM-20F1E monitor which is great for anything up to SNES & Mega Drive - maybe PS1 as well but the FW900 would be perfect for PC gaming due to the massively increased resolution

Your best bet is to just keep an eye out for something going locally and try and pick it up quickly. Sony TVs carry a premium price though but Panasonic and Philips were great too.
