Hi.

Well I have 2x 1GB of Ballistix PC5300 and 2x 1GB of GeIL Ultra PC6400, I'm just wondering if there is anywere that shows numbers for the ram that show which ones are the best clockers? Like I heard there was a specific one for Ballistix and they seemed to be good clockers, is it possible to tell from the label on the ramsinks?

I've got 4Gb of that Ballistix too. Why not test them with memtest86? It only takes half an hour.
If you look at the markings on the memory chips you might be able to decipher who manufactured them and then look them up.
 
I dont know how to take the ransinks off though. I was wondering if the label on the ramsinks with the long serial number on could give some info.

I tried selling it, no point aint worth it, would only get like £45 for it, infact, I wont get that now, thats what I was trying to sell it when I got it back from RMA and it was bran new unsealed. :(
 
I am confused :confused: Are the Ballistix still in their sealed bags or not? If not then I would advise just putting them in your rig and trying them.

I am not sure if you can tell anything from the serial numbers or not but I wouldn't suggest taking the heatsinks off as it has a tendency to pull chips of with it too.

If you look down the side of the ram holding it up to the light you can see if there are chips on just one side or on both. As far as I know if it is double sided then it is more than likely D9GMH and if it is singled then its a newer and supposedly less overclockable D9xxx variant.

I just bought a set of Ballistix 667 (double sided chips) brand new the other day and they clock very well indeed. They passed 9hrs of blend and several passes of memtest at 1140MHz 5/5/5/15 with only 2.0 volts. I definitely wouldn't advise selling yours until you have established what sort of chips are on it and how far they overclock :)

They are all double sided if they are 1GB, 512mb are single sided, mine are 1GB and double sided. Every 2 sets so far including my 3rd is too.
 
From my experience my 4gb of ballistix will clock very nicely. And not die unless i put <2v through them.
Currently running PC5300 at 800mhz 3,3,3,8 1.8v. Thats with 4x1gb sticks.
CPU-Z gives the chip serial numbers as:
83041678
7D13A444
84617E8B
8B03D5EF

Take from that what you will.

Your ram dies at under 2V?

Mine is 8461C7EF and 8304568F
