Ok I have been researching around and listening to others on here and reading reviews, and this is what I have so far for my new build:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £65.99
Total : £347.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

I would like to finish this off with the following components:

PSU suitable for future expansion and reliability (modular if poss)
HDD (SSD if poss as I have a 500GB and a 1TB I can use)
RAM (would like 8gb minimum, not sure on speed but I presume faster is better right?)
Case: now I know this is preferential, but if you are to choose the above components please bare in mind my budget below so I can see what case options are available to me with the monies left over!

It must all come from OC and my budget is £600

Is this realistic guys, I'm curious to see if this can be done. Many thanks in advance, will be looking to purchase this week as I really can't wait to build this now!

The PSU is enough (its also a quality Seasonic model under the skin) for that spec and three HDD's

I have 2 HDD's & 1 SSD, and a 7870 running from a 450w supply, probably not the best option but it works, so a 500w should be fine too :)

that seems very reasonable spec. would that board support another gpu to crossfire in future and can this play most games at reasonable res and fps? if so then i think i have my purchase ready!

Nah, the board will run the second slot at 4X speed meaning crossfire is worse than a proper 8x/8x board (need a 990 chip set for this).

Its best for single gfx cards only

damn thought we had cracked it then! the original board i specced would bring me over budget with your parts. im looking at some other boards but still finding it difficult and one that supports that cpu...

thanks cypto and stulid. think we have it now. the case is the only thing. but i could always get a better one at a later date. looks like a good build now and hopefully future proof to some extent. thanks again

No problems, just double check with stulid or some of the other guys before ordering however. Done what I can to check there won't be any problems but still learning.

In terms of case, You're absolutely right save up some and buy a nice case to house the system in as you might as well show it off. That case suggested also has a optional window side panel too and a few colors options. You can also pick up the windowed panel at a later date too.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Xigmatek Asgard II Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black £34.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard II Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black/Silver £34.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard II Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black/Orange £34.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard II Midi Tower Case - Black/Silver £29.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard II Midi Tower Case - Black/Orange £29.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard II Midi Tower Case - Black £26.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Windowed Sidepanel - Black £9.98
Total : £247.94 (includes shipping : £38.35).

Nice alternative mate.

Off topic, but look what I found out the other day.

Cheers bud. I personally would try and source a 7870XT though (Ocuk have only recently stop stocking it) as they are around the same price but being a Tahiti core are closely related to the 7950

So why didn't you send me the spare licence key? lol Just kidding, nice little bonus that :D

:p

Actually thinking of selling it on that well known auction site, having looked at the prices. :D

Be silly not to fella. On another side note have you had issues with the new Nvidia drivers? I recently did a reinstall of the OS and the rig hated the new driver. Random crashes and multiple displays just hung the system with a black screen, took me a little while to track down the cause :( Seems there have been quite a few complaints, just a word to the wise ;)

Any who to get back on track. I wasn't really happy with the size of the SSD in my spec. Granted it is rapid but I don't think the 60GB SSDs are good value when you can double the capacity for another £18 or so.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x MSI HD 7870 Black Knight 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R7870-2GD5T/OC) £161.99
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £60.00
1 x Zalman Z9 USB 3.0 Midi Tower Case - Black £54.98
1 x Thermaltake Smart Series 530w Modular '80Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
1 x Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G160C9K) £49.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler *Manufacturer Refurbished Unit - 90 Day Warranty £35.99
Total : £607.93 (includes shipping : £12.50).

Ditched the SSD as he has a HDD already, rather than change the case later (which he hinted at) it's probably best to get something half decent from the get go and add an SSD (256GB even?) later on perhaps

No problem.

That board has crossfire and sli support and has the CPU listed.

It has a better warranty and is a tiny tiny bit cheaper than the asrock.

Hopefully that's your spec sorted if you substitute it into crypto or idlemans spec.
