finish my build challenge!

Why am I wrong? I have no idea what you are on about. I wasn't talking about the review you linked I clearly stated a different video review for him to look up.

The Prodigy build is an i5 3570K @4.6Ghz and a Tahiti 7870 OC'd. That is feasible for him to build on his budget he doesn't need to make it Mini-ITX. Tom clearly states at the time I quoted earlier that the i5K build beats that "All AMD rig" which is in the review that you linked. The 8350 is the higher end CPU to what he had his eye on and the 7970 is obviously out of his price range too.

You haven't even linked to any youtube video, why should I go searching?

All I know is that the "All AMD" review I linked to for the OP to read shows that the cheaper CPU can do a good job at playing games, it's within the OP's budget easily enough and his final spec works, but I was able to squeeze a quicker gfx card in.

Of course a i5K sandybridge/ivybridge/haswell will beat the top AMD cpu everyone knows that.

You haven't even linked to any youtube video, why should I go searching?

The System is built by a competitor I already said that. I'm sure it will break forum rules to link to it so I haven't, I just hinted how to look for the review. He can still build a rig with a similar spec on his budget which is why I didn't do an AMD spec like everyone else has.

Hopefully from the reviews and the suggestions he has had he can now balance something out for himself

And with the AMD system the OP can have his SSD and a better case all at the beginning.

If thats what he wants then he should go for it.

There is a Intel alternative for £650. The 7870 is there as a place holder, I really suggest you look for a Tahiti 7870 instead. Ok the RAM is a little dearer but that's to keep things look tidy together, nothing wrong with swapping in the cheaper Ballistix kit it's just the Z9 U3 has a great window to show the internals off.

There is no Aftermarket cooler but you get a stock heatsink with the retail CPU, The Z9 case has plenty of fans to keep things cool so you can still try some slight overclocking. As the guys have shown the heatsinks don't have to be expensive, it would make a great gift from someone who doesn't know what to get you ;) Cases have a cut out on the back of the mobo tray so you don't have to strip the whole system down to add it in.

Hope this helps, I look forward seeing what you settle on later on in the week :)

hmm...decisions decisions! lol As attractive as Intel chips are, I cant help feel a little ripped off off if I were to go down that road, as they do have a tendency to change their sockets, whilst AMD is closing the gap and have already stated that their next line-up will still use AM3+ sockets. So for my case of future proofing, this is ideal, and a relatively low cost way of staying in the game. As my budget is always limited ( I have two kids and a wife to support on my sole income!), I don't get to plow as much money into these things anymore, hence why I researched AMD's route and as stated above, I had my eye on the current top end AMD cpu, because it is something I can afford, and have a nice machine and when time moves on can also upgrade to a second GPU in crossfire and maybe even a newer CPU, without the costly expense of getting another board and such.

although I do see both sides of the intel vs. amd argument, and don't really want to spark that debate off again!! there is enough of that here! so I will consider all the options you have suggested and will post my final decisions before I make purchase at end of week anyway.

Oh and as for the Tahiti LE, (or Tahiti 7870 XT etc.), after some research, I see it is slightly faster, but with overclocking could go quite a bit faster compared to standard 7870 running on an older chip. However, they are few and far between, and very hard to source, and can only be crossfired with another similar card, not a normal 7870, so if it's hard finding one now, when the time comes for me to expand, it could be even harder to grab one! So I will give that a miss, and stick to the aforementioned 7870 by stulid. Thanks for that info though, made for some interesting reading on chip dies and such in GPU's, and to someone looking for a single card in that price range, then yes it is a great deal!

thanks again guys and speak soon...

Or looking at it, I could also drop the CPU to a FX-6300, then with the money saved go for the MSI HD 7950 OC BE 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R7950-3GD5/OC BE G).

Now I'm in a muddle, faster CPU or faster GPU! either way it has to beat my very old and aging hd6670, which is painful in BF3 at times...

Don't hint at them neither.

If you are serious about Xfire then you really should up the PSU which is more expense, especially if you are now toying with the 7950. The Nvidia 760 is now out and is cheaper than the 7950. It's a halfway house between the 660 and 670 in a way and is worth considering too, it would also give CUDA support and PhysX for the games that support it.

You have plenty to think about. I do hope we have helped more than hindered, again I look forward to seeing what you put together in the end.

Superb price on the GTX670 currently. It actually works out cheaper including postage than if you select a 7950 which is the same price,

Well it's time for me to make a decision, although I'm stuck as to what to get, I want to try and future proof as much as possible, and my absolute max budget including delivery is £680. I've heard that the SSD gives greater boot times, but is this all? if so I could probally swap that out for better components elsewhere, or maybe the SSD is great, what are the benefits of an SSD paired with a 500gb HDD and a 1TB HDD?

oh and will be purchasing all the components tomoz as I can't wait any longer!! lol

seems like a nice build, only thing concerns me is the ram, never heard of team elite or used them, are they reliable or would ballistix be better suited, and also, I don't need HDD i have a 500gb and a 1TB i can use already.

One last thing how does a 660 compare to 7870, I've always used radeons, so know nothing about geforce!! :D

Ok, after reading through everyone's replies, I've narrowed it down to an AMD rig. This is what I have;

My question is before I hit the payment button, is all of this compatible (and will the card fit ok into the case??!), and is this the best I can get for this money, I really can't go much higher in price, and when I save some more I can then add another 7870 to crossfire...and I will be adding a 500GB hd internal and a 1TB external. I won't be playing games higher than 1080p as my monitor budget is £150, which my partner has kindly said she would buy for me! :) any suggestions on monitor would also help, as I was looking at the Asus one listed on OC at 129.99 think it's a 22"

First off thank you to everyone who has helped me with my specs for my build, I have decided to go for the following components, just ordered, and eagerly waiting to get building...!! :)

I hope all this is compatible, I think it is! If anyone could double check with me that would be great, also, I'm looking for a suitable monitor for 1080p gaming for a budget of £150 if that is possible guys?
