Finished building but can't get it up and running.... HELP

I'm not joking I've spent over 10 hours doing this build to try and ensure I do it properly.......to no avail apparently...

I press the ON button on the case......the rear and top case fans and the h80 cooler fans are not spinning.

the front case fan is spinning.


I can hear like a wheezing noise....(psu probly)

the Psu fan spins.

Nothing is lighting up on the motherboard, the only light showing up is on the LED at the front of the corsair case on the fan.



What do I do???

I have nothing plugged into the ATX 12v power connector....

I can confirm that the 24 pin molar is connected from the PSU to the motherboard (ATXPWR1)

Ram is seated correctly and is secured...

Mobo is seated etc...



I have both connected Sata cable to motherboard and HDD to PSU.
I have connected power (a thin rectangular shape lead) from hard drive disc to the motherboard.

Ditto for the Optical drive.
I have plugged in an HD audio wires from the top of the corsair case into the MOBO.
I have plugged in 2 x USB wires from the top of the corsair case into the MOBO.
I have plugged in a 1934 wire from the top of the corsair case into the MOBO.

I have plugged in all the system panel header buttons (as far as I can see they all match up with the manual)....the ON buttons works...the Leds light up.....

I have plugged in 2x PCIE cords to fill all the squares on the graphics card.

I have plugged in 2 wires (coming from the H80 fan cooler directly into the motherboard fan slots, being CHAfan2, CHAfan3 - these are being occupied by the mounted fans that come with the H8 cooler. PWR_FAn2 is unused as I can't reach it due to the presence of the radiator / fans / cooler ......

I haven't plugged anything INTO the corsair H80 cooler device - Do i need to?
There is a wire coming from the cooler itself (3 pins) - this is going into CPU_fan1 on the motherboard. This wire is also linked to a Molar wire


At the top of the corsair case a 4 pin molex is being plugged into another female molex wire that extends from the H80 cooler wire.... (I thought this is how this top fan of the corsair case spins leeches its power (from the CPU fan 1 socket on the motherboard). To clarify, I have the wire from the H80 going into CPU fan 1) - this same wire is connected to a molar type wire - this is being connected to a female moler which is connected to the top of the Corsair case (top fan?)

....

GPU is seated.... no signal to monitor though when pc turns on....

all wires are fully secured....

Really stuck....what to do???? Have I stuck some of the fans cables in the wrong place or something?...why aren't my system fans working??

do you have to use the ATX 12v PoWER connector????

Easy stuff first.

Motherboard standoffs fitted to the case.

24 pin and 8 pin power connectors securely fitted to the motherboard.

DO I need both of these??
If so is this the 8 pin one? - The PCIE (looks the same as the one you put in the graphics card??)

Check the power switch from the case is connected to the proper header on the motherboard.

Is there a set place ??? Based on the above does any of that seem wrong to you??

Yes you need both the 24 pin and 8 pin connected to the motherboard.

I can't get the wire from the PCIE wire from the power supply to reach the socket!! It's not long enough? wtf?

I think I've found it....it's 2 x 4 pins closely ties together (together they are 8 pins).... There looks to be JUST enough room to get it to the socket but I'm going to have to remove the bloody CPU fan that took me so long to install!! I'll do it tomorrow night as I'm tired ...hopefully it'll work.....

can you confirm that the rest of my setup should be ok?

is there any chance I've done damage to my system by powering it on without the 8pin plugged in??

Will the CPU have been active (i.e. potentially burning out if the 8 pin wasnt in??) because stock coolers weren't on....or does it require the 8 pin to actually boot up full stop....

wait 3 wires for power?? I have a molex from the top of the case.........there are no other molex's.... there' s a slot above the PCIE but this is labelled SLI / x fire connector - can I use this for powering fans? will the 24 pin + 8 pin be sufficient?

- corsair H80 should have the cable coming out of the bit thats on top of the processor going to a 3 pin socket on the motherboard that gives it full power (check that the slot is giving out full power in the bios) or a molex to 3 pin fan connector. it looks like there are two slots like this next to the top PCIe slot. do not use anything marked CPU_FAN as these will not give full power all the time

O rly??? I'll have to move that then... and presumably I should move the wire from the spinny fan that came with the H80 to CPU fan instead?

Ok I had to remove the H80 radiator + fan to fiddle about and get the 8pin power connection in!!!! GRRRR

All the wires are now plugged in except for the case and cpu FANS....Need help in this thread re this..I haven't used any molex's but I wanna know the ideal positions for each of the cables....

Why do you want me not to use the socket labelled CPU fan???? Are you saying I should use the number 2, 4 or 5 on my motherboard to power the CPU cooler, and forget the 3 pin molex attached to it?

OK all the fans are spinning now and LEDS on..and the cooler lights up....red power light on the motherboard....

I managed to reach a screen for the motherboard saying detected the processor ... and some ide devices or something


I couldn't press any F keys on the keyboard...... and there was no mouse clearly.....

The keyboard and mouse were both USB.....these are both plugged into the Motherboard USB slots.. I tried switching from usb 2 to 3 and no luck.

I then turned the computer off and tried plugging in the Serial Keyboard ... But now the Picture won't even load up !!!????

what do i do now?

There are no beeps upon power on....just a loud noise.... + fans ... the loud noise cuts out after about 7 seconds or so.....

Seriously, make sure all the cables are connected securely including the one from the graphics card to the monitor.

You could try connecting the monitor to the outputs on the motherboard just to see if you can get it working.

Try clearing the CMOS. Disconnect the power lead and press the little button on the rear I/O panel.

Still nothing......

What the heck.. how can the display come on 1 minute and not the next??

again, fans are spinning, cpu is on.....led is on..

DVD drive is ejecting.....

No lights are on my mouse USB .or keyboard.. USB. or the Serial Keyboard....

Have you tried the video output from the motherboard?

yes... nothing...I've even tried HDMI aswell as DVI-D

I will try reseating the ram now.

Shall I replace the current stick of ram with the other one and see if it boots up ok?
I confirm I am in the bios on the serial keyboard....

Also I was following MOBO instructions as to the seating of the ram.....

Was in slot 1 and 3 from left to right ....

HMM I just turned off the power ....and fired up the computer again without removing the ram stick which booted up....and now I don't have a picture or power to the serial keyboard again??? Nothing has changed - wtf?

done this twice now and it's doing the same thing... wtf?

OK I just tried loosening the Cooler block by a notch.... and I reset the CMOS again and I now have a picture with 1 stick of ram in slot 4

OK I just reseated the ram to slots 1 and 3 again.. it detects 8 gig and is loading up everytime....sweeet...

seems that it was the Overtightening of the Cooler!!! Nice one mate... I'll try install windows Now I guess

Before trying to install Windows just check in the BIOS what settings have been set for the RAM.

Particularly check the speed is set to 1600MHz and the voltage is 1.5V.

The timings should be 10-10-10-28.

Check the SATA mode is set to AHCI, this can offer some benefit for HDD's as well as SSD's.

Then have a go at installing Windows.

OK I just tried installing windows.. My USB mouse isn't working :/
Am I supposed to install something before I install windows lol?
whats changed since windows XP (I skipped vista?)

Also I tried formatting the HDD and it won't let me... confused

I think we've moved on from connecting up the H80 and I belive it's connected correctly this way:

The cooling block appears to have 2 cables coming from it:

1) A molex connector for power. This needs to be connected to a molex power cable from the power supply.

2) A pump speed monitoring cable which should be connected to the CPU fan connector on the motherboard (4 or 5 on the chart above).

The fans are connected to the 2 connectors on the cooling block.

Yes this is my current setup, I have the 3 pin into CPU1 (3 pin) and the molex into the POWER supply unit cable.... the 2 fans that came with it are plugged into the Cooler itself
