Fire at Swiss ski resort bar

Be a bit unusual for Switzerland to be something sinister, unconfirmed reports suggest pyrotechnics, the other usual suspect for places like that being gas leak.
 
Yeah, I was thinking gas leak of some sort.

This is the sort of thing you used to see up until the 90s. Fire safety should be at such a point these nightclub fires were a thing of the past :(
 
Horrendous, certainly not the kind of incident you expect to see so much these days, certainly not somewhere like Switzerland where rules, etc are very stringent.
 
New year sure went with a bang. Terrible, you don’t expect to go out for new year and to not come back, especially with such strict health and safety rules. Sounds like someone really cocked up.

Switzerland fire safety laws isn't good like the UK. Actually, its pretty pants.

When I moved there, the first thing I got was an smoke alarm. You be surprise how many people who visited my apartment didn't know what it was or never see one in person.

My one friend commented "Oh, is that a British thing you do......" I was lost for words.

Shame something like this had to happen.
 
Not confirmed, but according to witnesses that were inside.

According to them, the fire originated from one of the "birthday candles" placed by waitresses on champagne bottles.

"One of them was brought too close to the ceiling, which caught fire. In a few dozen seconds, the whole ceiling was on fire. Everything was made of wood," one of the women said.

Could correlate with sound proofing foam up there.

Horrific. :(
 
When we bought our first house in 1982 the first thing we were told was get rid of the polystyrene ceiling tiles.
 
Read there that it was caused by a firework held by a member of staff while dancing on another staff members shoulders. Crazy stuff

Get into the habit of writing things down immediately. Either set up a quick shortcut on your phone to go straight to a new note, or be one of these analog hipsters and get a pocket/field notebook and do it the old way.
