Shut up, 6% of their money comes from oil.

"The emirate's share in UAE's gas revenues is about 2%. Dubai's oil reserves have diminished significantly and are expected to be exhausted in 20 years. Real Estate and Construction (22.6%), Trade (16%), entrepôt (15%) and financial services (11%) are the largest contributors to Dubai's economy."

Don't worry, they've got plently more oil money to spend

technically this guy does still have a point, as they do infact have LOTS of oil money to spend, just because it isnt a massive % of the revenue doesnt mean there isnt lots of it :)

Real shame, hopefully theyll get it sorted and fixed up, looks amazing.

I did think about that, technically correct :D

No need for spiteful "murr well they can just use their wads of oil cash to fix it" attitude either.

Isn't it interesting how when Italy was fabulously wealthy they spent their money on the creation of the Roman empire, when the British were fabulously wealthy they spent their money on the British empire yet now the Middle East is fabulously wealthy they spend all their money on tacky cheese like funky hotels, desert based ski slopes, Lambourghinis to drive around London in and British football teams.

Hmmm.

ay but its insurance company thats footing the bill aint it, or the construction company - as theyv been paid to build it, so its not the hotel's fault that the hotel fell on fire, since it was still the construction companys responsibility? :)

iirc Dubai never really had its own oil/gas it just shared with the other UAE's, hence why it became the Vegas/Holiday Resort of the middle east.

And another nice fact the Burj Al Arab was meant to be a huge casino for the Arabs to gamble (at sea to deal with gambling laws) but it was all changed and made into a hotel.
