Firefly/Serenity?

I asked a simple question: why do you think the film is great? It seems to me that you spend several weeks avoiding the question, rather than answering it. You then attempt, rather feebly, to say that it's all my fault that you can't answer a simple question. My argument is simple: SW (the original) is badly scripted (using ideas mostly stolen from panto and given a painfully thin Science Fiction gloss which was actually completely irrelevant), terribly acted, averagely directed and with some mediocre special effects (even for it's day - the matting shadows are visible all over the place). I say it's a terrible film, and I'm waiting for someone to tell me why it's a great one. Something which I notice no-one has even attempted. I genuinely want to know.

And popularity is a terrible argument for greatness (although the various converse arguments are not true either): for a while Jeffrey Archer sold shed-loads of books and his writing is awful.

It's the type of debate that will go around in circles but we'll just agree to disagree on this one. I, along with 99% of the civilised world think Star Wars is a great thing... and you don't. :)

Not even a full series really :( Do what I do when I reach the last episode and just start watching it again! (after Serenity of course)

I am honestly upset about this.

Shamikebab, not long now till DollHouse starts :). I think Summer will be appearing around episode 5 or 6 as a character called Bennet and will play a DollHouse employee. Her role sounds interesting, i cant wait.

I can't wait :D More excited to see Alexis Denisof actually, he's going to be in at least 4 episodes apparently :)

I'm not familiar with him but I'm excited to see that Michael Hogan and Jamie Bamber will both have a cameo appearance. I'm a big BSG fan so it'll be great to see them alongside Tahmoh Penikett. TSCC brought in a few writers and actors from BSG as well.

Will also be cool to see Summer and Alan in the same show. Although i doubt they will have any scenes together.

I would feel no regret if I were to kill the person who cancelled this show. A travesty to the world.

I hear you. First Firefly, then TSCC, lets just hope Dollhouse isn't next.

I agree, I don't even like the entire original Star Wars trilogy anymore because I can't get over the hand puppets and I've seen them way too many times, they're over-exposed, overrated, etc. Although their popularity should be taken into consideration I feel due to the prominence of it.

I saw Star Wars: Episode III recently though and thought it was great. Mainly because it had some proper CGI.

Thats almost the worst thing about the series, the end of the 'final' episode is a great ending for an episode but for the end of a series and show its just hggnnnghh and leaves you wanting more, Serenity then just doesnt have the same feeling for me (it has to reintroduce the series, characters and relationship) then you go back to the first episode and everything is broken back down.

Im no expert in special effects of the 70's but compared to what I've saw in films around that time, New Hope's effects where years ahead of it contemporaries.

Alexis played Wesley in Buffy and Angel and has recently been in How I Met Your Mother. I'm a big BSG fan as well so can't wait to see those two :) Apparently they're both in the opening episode. They've also bought in two of the writers of Reaper this series so I'm interested to see what they bring.

I enjoy Dollhouse, and Season 1 defintely picked up after episode 5 or 6, but i'd trade it for a full second season (and completed first) of Firefly in a heartbeat.

Should be interesting to see how new writers will change the show. Two of the writers from season 1 left to work on another show didn't they?

elizadushku - Summer Glau is the loveliest girl. Dollhouse welcomes her w/ wide open arms!

From Twitter 7 hours ago, i wonder is they're filming episode 5 already?

According to Ausillio she is going to be a top programmer like Topher. Should be interesting seeing them interact together. Might be like on 24 season 7 with Chloe and Janis in competition with each other lol.

Is Summer going to be a regular, or just a one off appearance? If she's a regular I'm going to start watching it lol.

According to Joss she will be a recurring character.

From what Ive read previously she was supposed to appear around episode 5 or 6 but the fact she is on set now makes me think she could be in an earlier episode. Or it could just be that they're filming her parts now as she could have other projects on.

She plays an important role and apparently her role will have some romance involved :).

Oh god I hope Topher gets some love, after that heartbreaking scene in Epitaph One I feel more sorry for him than any other character :(

perhaps we should start a Dollhouse thread.

I watched the movie then the series (hadn't heard of firefly). Was easy to understand without seeing the series.

The series is good, the movie is awesome.

Good idea but the only problem is we cant discuss episodes that haven't aired in the UK :(.

You have all just put me in the mood to watch firefly again :)

It's my favourite TV series by a mile, it just really appeals to me.

It's a shame how FOX wrecked it though and they cancelled it, I hate them for it.

I enjoyed dollhouse too, but as others have said it only really picked up after 5 episodes and some episodes were bad eg the backing singer episode. Some other stuff peaved me off too, like on one episode they cracked RSA encryption but on another they couldn't crack a simple password off a bloody pen drive. Then on episode 11 Alpha editing HTML code on his screen to "hack" into a computer system. I guess it's just my inner geek :p

I'll probably still watch the new season when its out especially if summer is in it :D:D

edit: Might go and buy firefly on blueray to watch it over, only have it on dvd :D
