Firefox 14

I moved over to Chrome as the YouTube type issues were too problematic for me but left version 13 installed.
Version 13 of FF has updated for me to 14 and disabled all my plugins, but I updated and enabled them, and the Youtube issue is still there.

I've been using Firefox and Chrome about 50/50, I'm eding towards Chrome as my favourite now. I just wish the bookmark toolbar icons were closer together

Disable the protected mode in flash.

No FireFTP for Chrome and no bookmarks separators = instantly shelved.

Long time FF/Chrome user here as well.

Disabling the protected mode seems to work fine, thanks for that :)
I wonder if there are any issues in doing that..?

Now to go back to FF or keep with Chrome, choices choices.

FWIW - when I have tried different skins, which have a limited effect in Chrome, I would like to think that they have improved the "tightness" of the bookmark toolbar icons, but maybe it is just me imagining it. Don't any of the Stylish scripts help with that..?

I found the changelog:

Firefox 14
----------
We have upgraded the number of the browser from 13 to 14.

No further changes.

No bookmarks separators = instantly shelved.

Long time FF/Chrome user here as well.

This, amongst these reasons:

scrolling - no where as smooth on image intensive pages as it is on firefox (even with scroll add-ons)

Rendering/loading - has a more instant feel than chrome especially on demanding web pages

Where you last left of is remembered in firefox when tabs are pinned (after closing and opening firefox that is), extremely handy this as I have a lot of threads pinned usually so saves me from having to scroll all the way down again and find the last post I read, on chrome the pages are just refreshed and put back at the top of the page again

font looks better/smoother on firefox

I have gmail pinned as a tab on firefox and the tab changes colour when a new email arrives, with chrome I need an addon installed in order to show a new notification and it is in the toolbar, which is annoying

user styles work much better on firefox than chrome

ads are blocked on chrome, however, the space which the ad was occupying is still there, just blank (only for a few websites this happens though)

If chrome had most of the above especially the pinned tab thing where it remembers where you left of atfer closing the browser, I would be using it as I prefer the UI overall, the smoothness throughout the UI and just simply because it is by google :p :o Plus speed dial 2 is an amazing add on and much better than the firefox alternatives.

I moaned big time on the firefox forums with the last update because it broke my theme and there was no big changes and they made a new version. They are also going to remove tabs on bottom which i and many others am furious about. I am realy not happy with some of the decisions that mozilla is taking :(

on another note:

Currently a known issue with latest flash and firefox. For better performance it is recommended to uninstall the latest version.

install version 11.2.202.235 for optimal performance. Until adobe fix it.

FF > Chrome

for the simple reason that you can't turn off search suggestions in the omnibar. Had a look on t'interweb for a way to do it and found posts from google employees saying they will NEVER put the option in, despite dozens of their customers starting threads and complaining about it. If they can't be bothered to do that then I'm sure as hell not going to make use of their browser, they can shove it. Terrible attitude from google.

Pinned tab for gmail!!!!! This is exactly what I've been looking for. Couldn't find any addons.

Thank you :)

*edit* not quite. It vanishes after I close the window :(

Disabling protect mode also works.

Removing tabs on the bottom will annoy quite a few people. It annoyed me at first on FF4 but then I decided to give tabs on the top a go. Now I'm use to it :p. I'm sure someone will come up with an add-on to overcome this...

I've tried to like Chrome too, but a few issues put me off. The main one is that i cant get Chrome to cycle though tabs in my most recently used order, like with FF and TMP (Ctrl + Tab) In Chrome it just goes from one end to the other. If i could sort that i'd be happy.

I will try the protectedmode fix but I think that may fix a different problem than the one I was having. Based no the video i just watched the protectedmode fix was to fix a problem where videos did not play completely.

The problems that i was having:

Flash was hanging on load, Flash was causing browser to hang randomly, Flash was causing firefox browser to not close when closing browser and when switching tabs the black background of flash videos was showing the content of other tabs. Also a general poor performance when using flash.

Since downgrading all these problems are resolved.

I installed 14 at work and tried out my theme and i was glad to see the new back and forward buttons is optional, which is rare for firefox. ie it didn't break my themes back and forward buttons.

I don't like the effect myself on first look. I don't want the address bar moving like that.

Here is a full list of the changes. This would have barely been a point release a few years ago. Now it is a full release, at this rate we should be at firefox 20 before the end of the year.

I don't see why they have picked a theme (australis) and decided to change the entire application to fit around this one theme. The people at mozilla are annoying. They recently received about $100 million from google to keep google as the default search engine. Coincidentally they have also been moving towards making firefox look and act more like chrome and they have also been pushing loads of changes through the tracker that are around making firefox addons and themes etc work in chrome and other browsers under the guise of the mozilla mission statement.
