Firefox 3.0.4 coming this week

They'll follow the normal release schedule? Who'd a thought it?

These aren't security fixes per se (in the sense that they aren't rushed out to fix some issue), they're just the standard "security and stability" fixes that happen to fix issues.
The wiki reckons release December 16th, but that's extremely provisional. At the end of the day, it's ready when it's ready...

i don't understand why people get so worked up over firefox. its hardly the orgasmic computing experience of the millennium? sure, its better than IE6 and 7, but so is netscape 4.0 from 1998 :P

i STILL find opera faster and in general, superior to firefox.

I would say the final release of Fx 3.1 due in early 2009 good one... Mozilla still lots of work before it coming up in Feb-Mar 2009 then once it goes out then they work for new Fx 4.0 for next one

I wait for Fx 3.1 final release that about 3-4 months away.

Hmm, looking forward to beta 2.

It may not be "orgasmic" but it's nice to get news that your browsing experience may be faster, more stable or whatever.

Firefox is really annoying me. I have a constant problem with it freezing/crashing and have had with every version. 3.0.4 ain't any better and I don't have any extensions. On OS X and don't get on with Safari. :(

Regardless of extensions, tried a new profile? If your problem's mostly freezing, it might be an idea to try without copying your bookmarks.

Does it submit a crash report (i.e. does it show up in about:crashes)? A link to the report would be useful.

Same here - my FF3 crashes when downloading something off the web. Crashes EVERY time, not randomly. Been doing this for weeks

I got bored with this and downgraded to 2.0.0.18. Its fab now

Some issue with your antivirus? Using 2.0.0.18 is a bit retarded now, given it's the last release that's going to get security updates...

Havent a clue really. I wouldnt know how to check it anyway. It was running fine on V3 till the the last couple of updates.

I use Avast Home

Disable it and see (you might need to flip browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone too)? The crash report (about:crashes again) would be useful too, if there's one.
If you ever do upgrade (and given the lack of any more updates, it would be recommended), you'll have issues importing any bookmarks or history that have changed since you went back to 2.0.

Well i followed your advice mr T..
I downloaded the WinXP Beta 3.1 version, disabled Avast for the install, but i didnt do that ' flip browser.download.' etc, thing.

Installed 3.1 and opened it up. All my Bookmarks were there - fab ! Went to a random website to D/L a .pdf , ( in this case the Nitromors site ) which is something that would always crash FF v3.0.

Same thing ! " Firefox had a problem and crashed " I sent the auto report, but it doesnt allow you to copy the details of what was sent, otherwise i would have posted them to you here.
Anyways, the .PDF still downloaded. They always did before, but of course the current tab, and any other tabs that were open, ( email, Ebay etc ) would all go with FF crashing, but the option to " restart and load previous tabs " was what i always chose.

Anyways, after i sent the auto report, i opened FF Beta again, and went back to the Nitromors webby and tried again. Success ! No crash !

Very weird this :D

Stable 3.0.4 would've been good enough, rather than a potentially unstable beta.

about:crashes again

How do you download the PDF, right click and save as, or some extension?

I generally just click a link ( if the .PDF is hyperlinked ) and it downloads.

I dont really ever remember having to right click .PDF's to download them?

3.1 is running real nice though, so i'm a happy bunny, despite getting a Beta version. Re-enabled my Avast Home AV and alls well still :)

Hi Mr T - yes i use Sumatra. Acrobat reader is way too big. Sumatra is a quarter the size and reads .PDF's just as well
