Firefox Addons to avoid

The Mozilla page specifically states they affect how long Firefox takes to start up. Hardly a major issue given your browser is probably the one program you start once and leave running all day.

I run a number of addons from the so-called list of shame, and my FF start up time is hardly an issue.

not with firefox 4 in my experience, I need to reload it every 4-5 hours due to a memory leak (over 1gig with one empty tab) that makes the browser become unresponsive.

No memory issues here, and my FF has been open for a week! :p

Even if you do have to restart once or twice a day, FF still only takes a few seconds for me - even with some of the apparantly evil addons in the OPs link.

"FasterFox - Browse Faster" :p

Browsing is faster. Pretty sure it doesn't claim to make the browser start any faster! ;):p

I personally use video download helper and tbh its worth a slight speed loss in my eyes as it is such a useful application.

Also with addons like Adblock + and Noscript. Firefox should in theory run faster as it prevents flash and advertisements running eliminating the slowdown caused with video download helper.

ps forgot to mention Start Faster also helps lower firefox start up time

Read the actual Mozilla page.

Add-ons with Slowest Start-up

The following add-ons have the most impact on how long it takes Firefox to start up.

There is no other category on that page. Once your browser has started, the addons should not have any other affect. The Mozilla page may be updated with addons that do slow down browsing, but so far the article is making out the listed addons are all terrible and should be avoided at all costs.

What an awful article... at no point does it mention that the figures relate to startup time, not browsing speed.

Anyway, a lot of those add-ons are among the most useful ones. Of course add-ons which integrate more deeply with the browser will slow startup more.
