firefox bookmarks

close firefox. now open task manager>processes tab to make sure there are no instances of 'firefox.exe' running. end the task if there is.

now goto start, run type

firefox -p

that should bring up a dialog where you can choose your 'default' profile and you should have all of your settings/bookmarks back. :)

In 1.5.0.x and 2.0, they're stored in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[some random letters].[profile name, usually Default]\bookmarks.html

that just loaded the new new firefox (with all the bookmarks deleted). :(

Stick it into the run box, and all will be revealed?

(%APPDATA% is an environment variable that points to c:\documents and settings\[your user]\application data)

that just loaded the new new firefox (with all the bookmarks deleted).

Something's wrong then - you should get a box like this:
ff-profile-manager.jpg

You did close Firefox and make sure there were no running FF process?

i put that line in the run box but it said it could not be found.

and yeah firefox -p brought up that menu, but the only option was 'default' and when selected it loaded the new FF with no bookmarks/settings.

guess i've lost my (100+) bookmarks then. :(

Cutting it off at the bit where I put in [random letters] etc?

Works for me in XP Pro, even autocompletes once I'm past %APPDATA%

Firefox retains its own backup within the profile, but whether it's a) intact b) any use, you'd need to get to the profile first...
