Firefox can't handle PHP extensions?

Often when I open a page ending in php or containing php, it tries to download the php file instead of opening it in the browser.
So far I've noticed this behaviour with forums and image hosting sites.

I'm using Firefox 2.0, uninstalled and reinstalled but same problem.

ANy suggestions?

For forums it mostly happens with vbulletin ones. I have reinstalled Firefox yesterday and I thought the problem was gone until I started browsing OCuk and it did it again.

THis guy HERE had the same problem but no solution

Oh OK. If you go Tools>Options>Content>(File Types) Manage, you haven't got PHP listed under there? That is what comes to my mind. If PHP is in there for some reason then FF would perhaps see a PHP page as a file to download and not a page to display.

Is it usually listed there? I've never heard or seen any similar issues where we had to change this manually. Is that normal?
Nah it shouldn't be listed is what I'm hinting at. That is the only cause I can think of. If PHP is in there then delete it.

AFAIK its something to do with your internet connection, rather than FF.
Mine tends to do it when I'm totally killing the net connection with P2P, & Ebay does it whatever is happening. (But thats a know NTL proxy problem IIRC)

Now that you are mentioning it, it does happen in this situation. Haven't had this problem when connection was free.

Is there a way to resolve it apart from cutting downloads?

I'm on 512 and it happens when around 30 tabs of the forum are open.

Try it and tell us if if it does it (if you have a greater speed, open more tabs)? :D

I'm on 512 too but 30 tabs?! There's your ruddy problem. I rarely have tabs into double figures let alone 30 of 'em.

i 'think' i had this problem when i had dreamweaver installed and it was trying to assosiate itself with php files..

not 100% sure tho

LOL! yeah I like to keep threads I spot that have interesting titles, so I can read most of them without them being lost between bumps or new threads

I have dreamweaver associated with php files too, but firefox doesn't try to download the php pages if the usage is light. Probably finding an alternate program to open the page, as it's taking too long to load

i'll have a fiddle on mum's pc now, she has DW installed, but i intentionally told it to not assosiate any files..

do this..

my computer/explorer
tools
folder options
file types

mine has no PHP entry.. (maybe removing yours will solve the problem if you have one?)

i've had this problem as well, never found out what causes it, but it does tend to always happen on message boards either when I'm hammering the connection or the message boards server is slow at responding.

I've have this exact thing happen. Most of the time it has happened to me during night-time browsing, 11pm - 3am, so I thought maybe the afflicted message boards were being patched/upgraded/tinkered with and didn't think any more of it. It probably happens to me maybe once a week/fortnight.

That's exactly the same time as the problem appears with me. I get this box pop up :-
