Do I have a Trojan/Virus???...

Its weird!... Immideatly the moment I start windows (XP Home SP2) a process starts called firefox.exe using 11mb.. no matter what I do it won't go!...

I've got Process explorer running and on killing the process it seems to get re-spawned by another momentary process called ntcom.exe.

I've tried to google these problems but can't find much info!... has any one else got this problem or seen it??... how can I sort it??..

I've got Adaware and Sbybot.. neither seem to be able to find a problem!!..

Do you use firefox? (you do know what firefox is right!)

You could do a "find" in Windows for firefox.exe and see where the file is located on disk.
 
I've used Firefox since v.09... So Yeah!!.. I know what Firefox is!!!.

Looks like it might be the 'Poison Ivy' Trojan/Keylogger! (finally found summut on the Mozilla Forums)...

It hides its self in a Fake process called firefox.exe... when Windows boots up it loads automatically but Firefox doesn't start as its not the real Firefox!..

Even killing the process won't stop it as it starts up again seconds later!...

When Browsing (actually using Firefox) I have 2x processes... one using Processor/Memory (the real version) the other just memory (about 11mb)

Unfortunatly I've tried the fix but it keeps re-installing its self!...

I've bit the bullet and I've Formatted and I'm re-installing Windows!!.. :(

So just a warning!!!... If you see a second process calles 'firefox.exe or a lone process of the same name and firefox isn't running and when you look in msconfig and you see ntcom.exe in the startups (this can't be de-activated by the way!!) you Might have 'Poison Ivy' :(

Luckily I've still got my old (AMD4 1Ghz) Lappy so I can still browse the forums whilst I sort out my main rig!!..
 
I think its a Keylogger!... I just panicd as My system's been clean for almost a year!... I'm currently rebuilding it now!... Just got to re-install my Autocad, Corel, Winamp and iTunes (and get my ipod going) now!!!...

Not bad for 5 hours work!!!..
 
Ah! That explains why my Vista firewall all of a sudden wanted to block firefox.exe..... Shame that comps ****** now! :rolleyes:
