Just spent a little while making this up and kinda proud of it so I thought I would share it with you all.

Basically it changes the tab icon in firefox to show you when you have a new mail, and changes back when you don't. I use it with app tabs to make it lean and cute:

NOTE: Depending on whether your mail is entitled "Google Mail" or "Gmail" you will have to install a different style.

If you don't know what you need download stylish first and click on "install with stylish", make sure you get app tabs too and right click on the tab and select "app tab" which will make it auto load with firefox too.

Neither work for me (using HTTPS via mail.googlemail.com and have a gmail.com address).

I use GMail Labs option to show new mail count in the tab title:

Awesome mods Skyfall. Can you please explain how to make the Firefox tab bar textless? I notice that yours are just icons, like with the Windows 7 task bar. I would probably prefer that in Firefox.

That's app tabs, install it then right click on tabs to make them "app tabs", there are a few addons that do similar too.
 
Is it possible to have it a static one as you've got but with a number to denote how many unread messages have come in?

In Customise Google (which I completely forgot had this feature) it looks like this:

Would be handy I guess for people who don't use Customise Google!
 
phew, having gone through 4000 emails marking the unread ones as read, I can say that it works! I think you've labeled the links wrong above btw, as the gmail and google mail ones are swapped. Cheers bro!

I'll look into it, not sure atm, but doh didn't know about this customize google thing, might have saved me some time! :D
