Firefox not closing properly

Having problems closing Firefox 2.0.0.11 after a reasonably long period of use. It appears to close properly but on trying to reload it message says Firefox is still running - please close it or reboot system

Alt/Tab can't find an instance of Firefox running but I can close it down in Task Manager or reboot - in both cases Firefox starts normally.

Any suggestions please

Thanks for the links - am trying complete uninstall/reinstall amd will see how that goes

Un/reinstall won't do that much unless the binary itself has somehow been messed with - most problems are caused by an issue within your profile, which the installer (understandably) won't touch...
