hi guys,

when i type punctuation (forward slash and apostrophe) in the "post a new thread" dialogue or the "reply" dialogue firefox opens the "quick find" box, and will not let me type the punctuation.

it is fine to type them in the address bar, but not on any webpages.

any idea what is wrong?

thanks

daven

well it shouldn't do that when the text input area has focus?

anwyay, goto tools>options>advanced>general tab. untick the box "search for text when i start typing". :)

Extensions?
Tried safe mode and/or new profile?
What is accessibility.typeaheadfind (about:config) set to?

extensions:
delicious
flashgot
mouse gestures
adblock
downthemall

typeheadfind is set to false
typeheadfind.autostart is set to true

this has happened on other profiles too.

I have the exact same problem. It only happens now and again and doesn't seem to occur from pressing or clicking anything, just randomly intervenes. Very annoying.

Does it happen in safe mode or with a new profile though?

It definitely shouldn't be happening, and doesn't happen for me in a fresh profile on 2.0.0.4. There was a bug with it doing that though...

It's possible it's an extension then.

This post, and #311376 [Firefox:Find Toolbar / FastFind]-Occasionally ' or / keys start find bar even in textareas [slash, apostrophe, quote, FAYT] have some suggestions.

how can i copy all my current extensions and settings over?

Copy and paste. This has some indication of what files you're looking for.
Be warned that copying all the extensions en masse might leave you with a duplicate profile with the exact same problem.

Try tapping your 'start' button. Sometimes when I type ' or " it does it, but a quick tap of the 'start' button fixes it  Dodgy extensions to firefox, most likely
