If I type http://zyxuvw/ into the address bar in Firefox, it tries to connect to http://zyxuvw/ and, if that fails, http://www.zyxuvw.com/
I don't want it to check the .com address. I just want it to check what I type and nothing more. Doing otherwise is a security risk as far as I'm concerned because for all I know there's a dodgy site 'out there' that happens to have the same name as something on the local subnet. And, even if there isn't, its still annoying. I'd much prefer it just to fail.
How can I stop Firefox from doing this? If IE does the same, how can I stop that too?
PS - The URL above is fake and was contrived deliberately to avoid any existing domain name as of the time of this post.
PPS - Please excuse me if this has already been asked. I expect it probably has at some point.
