Firefox Warning

I thought it was just my PC playing up with those silly bugs!! It's been almost 2 years since I've formatted this hard drive so I put it down to that... and it's Firefox!

That copy & paste bug drives me mad sometimes :(

EDIT - maybe someone experiences this then? Sometimes I can't use the apostrophe ' key as it just brings up some stupid search bar at the bottom of the screen... no idea why it does it, only does it on this site though.

I though it was my keyboard being pants that was refusing to copy and paste.

Yea, the "'" <-- lol, brings up quick find for some reason too. Only does it when you're not typing though.

I used FF for a year or so then tried Opera for while. I've been using flock for the last few months and it works best for me. If you don't want to use FF for any reason, for the love of all things holy, DON'T go back to crappy IE. Once you've used tabbed browsing, IE is like trying to surf with your hands tied behind your back even if IE 7 does have the tabbed option. Try Opera or Flock first before you go back down that road again!

Firefox was never designed to be secure. I've said this for years. IE5/6 actually have more built-in security features than FF has ever had (just look at the Security Zones capabilities...)

FF managed to get popular for being a lightweight browser. Over time it has bloated out as the features were recklessly piled on. It has undergone massive growing pains similar to those experienced by IE in its infant years and as such security has always taken a back seat in the product.

The whole "FF is secure" notion started because FF was a relatively unpopular browser initially and people used the line to make people interested during a time which IE was undergoing new exploitation every other week.

Another point is that the FF source code is available to all, including hackers, this makes it a prime target for 0-day attacks - at least to an extent that other commercial browsers (IE, Opera) do not suffer from.

Morons  So they just wanted to slur Firefox basically.

Or, as I said previously, someone's made a lot of money with a sudden change of story...

Which one is true? No-one can ever know, but if this situation involved IE, I guarantee there would be so many people proclaiming it dodgy it's unreal...

That's a feature.

Pressing / brings up the "Find as you Type" bar, and pressing ' allows you to bring up the same bar but only search links. I find the "Find as you Type" a thoroughly useful feature, and I've yet to meet anyone who has a tendency to whack the forward slash or apostrophe keys whilst browsing web pages. This feature is automatically disabled whilst typing in text fields, so I don't see a problem.

As for the copy and paste issue, I've yet to encounter that...

I recommend installing an extension for firefox called No Script.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/

It disables java and javascript by default for all webpages. You just need to click on the menu in the bottom right corner to reenable it for any website. Only mildly irritating and can protect you from stuff like this.

yup i use it it's great for browsing highly recommended. Infact some "dodgy" pages won't load at all they are that full of scripts still if you are googling something it's a nice additional security feature.

Ah, didn't realise that's what / and ' do :) Still, it does very occasionally do it when you're typing in a text box, which is incredibly irritating, as you have to restart Firefox to fix it.

What's the copy/past bug?

Find As You Type Link: '
Find As You Type Text: /

One searches text, one searches linked text. No prizes for guessing which is which. :p

Haven't seen it for ages on the 2.0 builds. No idea if the fix made it into 1.5.0.x (or why if it didn't).

No, the " ' " bug still exists in the latest builds. and it's rears its head when I'm posting on a daily basis both here and at work.
