Behind you... Naked!
This is somethign that came up a short while ago and at first I didnt really care that much, but its now bugging me.

Basically, all the PCs on my network can see each other...

They cannot however, access any of the others files.

One PC however, can... It can see and both Read and write to the drives on the other PCs.

I am real sure this is actually caused by some spyware / virus, but cannot be 100%, however, I am getting the very same answers from all my network PCs and this is somethign that has never happened to me before, and for them all to suddenly do this, is very strange to me.

Anyway, today I have decided to have a go at curing it ,and I found that the firewall is controled by group policy, and this is somethign that I have not set myself.

So, I have opened up gpedit.msc but absolutely everything says its not configured, and to be honest, I am not 100% sure whether I will help anything if I was to just try to enter random junk in, and I know my luck, but I would probably kill it all.

Anyone offer any clues?

Windows Firewall - Exceptions - Make sure "File and Print Sharing" is ticked.

That should sort it if it's a Windows Firewall issue, if that still doesn't work run the network setup wizard on the PCs that it doesn't work on.

I'm assuming you mean Windows Firewall as I don't think any others could be affected by Group Policy. (Which you shouldn't need to touch for this)

It's just one of the joys of Windows Networking ;)

i take it you are on a domain, the firewall will be controlled by active directory group policy which should override any policies you apply. Does the account you log in with have domain admin rights or admin rights on the pc's. Another long shot here is that one bunch of PC's are on one subnet....and the other PC is on another subnet which is allowed file print sharing on group policy. so 192.168.1.xxx is not allowed wheras 192.168.2.xxx is allowed. This could be a setup where admin guys are on one subnet wheras the other staff are on the other

File & Print sharing is enabled of course. Thats not it.
Have already tried the wizard... Did nothing.
Yes, I do mean Windows firewall, and no, I know I shouldnt need to touch anything, but the thing is, that I dont even use Windows Firewall???, its turned itself on, and done this a short while ago!

I normally use the Firewall in my router.

No, I am not on a domain.

Ah!!!???

I just tried to check the subnet on this PC here, by enabling the SHOW WHEN CONNECTED Icon and I tried to click on status, and it appeared and then instantly disappeared???

This PC is the P4-3.6 and I have switched on the ClawHammer to copy some files over and they copied just fine, so the P4 and the Clawhammer can see each other, the internet, and do what they are supposed to, except they can see the x2 downstairs, but still nto get access to its files, the x2 can access the files on both these 2 PCs however.

So, I cannot check the network umbers then on this one?

I know it should be 192.168.1.12 cos I set it manually the other day when I installed XP onto it, but at this time, I cannot verify it cos everything I bring up to show me, disappears.

Definitely somethign wrong then surely?
