This thing firewire, is that what the tiny plug socket is on my laptop that looks very much like the "link up" port on the front of my playstation 2?

am I right in thinking that this port is quicker than usb2?

if so.... is it possible to buy an external enclosure for a SATA 2.5" laptop hdd that runs off firewire? thus making it quicker to read/write from/to?

Yes, you can buy Firewire external enclosures for Hard drives. You can only read/write so fast to a hard drive anyway, and i have no idea if its faster / slower than USB 2 in real life. (Not on the specs obviously).

Dont know what they are like though.

EDIT: Just saw its 2.5" your after. D'oh! What about an adpater from 2.5" to 3.5" that makes it fit into a bigger enclosure. Or does it have to be small?
