Fireworks make me jump

Define 'a mild panic attack'? It's perfectly normal to jump due to sudden unexpected loud bangs. If you're startled you'll feel the effects of the squirt of adrenaline your body just received. Maybe your 'fight or flight' reaction is overactive - do you get the same reaction to other shocks or only fireworks?
 
I've developed a bit of a dislike for those very things.. maybe not a dislike as such but it certainly makes me jump a hell of a lot more than it used to.
Porbably due to moving out of the city a few years ago to the stix where it's basically quiet the whole time!
 
Should I be more worried that I barely register them? I guess it has something to do with how alert you are, for instance I'm a lot more likely to jump when doing something that requires me to be paying attention, like driving or even crossing the road.
 
I hope you don't play Pubg OP. That game makes me jump all the time. Casually running along and someone leaps out in your face and full auto in the face. Or snipes you from long range. No other game that I can recall has made me jump. Headphones don't help either probably...
 
OP, I think you'll find it's more common than you think, along with the fear of balloons.

Are you generally of a nervous disposition?

It's not always the case, i dont have any problem with loud noises like fireworks/gunshots/the many and varied pyrotechnics you find in airsoft.

That said, i guess the issue is one of exposure and experience of knowing it's going to happen and that it doesn't realistically pose any danger.

Having lived through the troubles in Northern Ireland, a firework doesn't even register on me now unless it is right in front of me.
