Fireworks

Oh one last tip, try and be upwind from the display to avoid the smoke.
Yup, this actually should be the number one tip !

And also one I discovered last week was - make sure the bonfire is not between you and the fireworks..... I was all set-up ready to go and it was dark and then they lit the bonfire..... Not only was there lots of smoke but it also was going to show up in every photo I took - and obviosuly was going to be completely blown out compared to the rest of the picture... I moved quick enough.

Cool, thanks for the tips guys.

Is there any way of forcing my camera shutter to open? Because when I did some shots of cars on a motorway at night I had some trouble with the camera refusing the start taking a picture. I was on shutter priority, manual focus and a shutter release cable, and sometimes it wouldn't take. Worried I might miss some shots if this happens tonight.

Also, how do you get it so you hold the shutter button down and then as soon as you let go the shutter closes? Is this even possible? Thanks

Not sure why it didn't take shots as you said. Providing you are on manual focus then I can't think why it would refuse.... Unless it was still transferring shots to the memory card - Did you do a lot of shots in quick sucession?

Not sure on Canon, but on Nikon just set it to Manual and then choose "Bulb" mode... Then if you press the button (either on the camera or the shutter release) then it opens and when you leave go, it closes.

I find it does it sometimes If I am in low light. Possibly the focus was the problem although I swear I was on manual focus at the time. Nevermind.

Thanks for that, I didn't know about Bulb mode so I'll have a look for it when I get home :)
