Firmware for WRT54GL

I recently got a WRT54GL + AM200 setup that's working perfectly fine with no problems. I want to change the firmware to something like Tomato because of some of the features it offers.

I want a feature to restrict inbound traffic to certain users so the connection isn't choked. My internet connection is only 1MB so bandwidth is very limited when 3 or so people are using it at the same time. I would like to restict the bandwidth of users who download a lot (like my brother) so others don't suffer from servere slowdown.

Tomato seems to have a feature that will do this but going by what it says here (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Tomato_(firmware)#QoS_.2F_Access_Restrictions_Notes) it's not really really limiting bandwidth, just dropping packets. Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean that it's still downloading from the Internet connection at full speed but then just restricting what's get sent over the LAN/WLAN or something along those lines anyway? I'm hoping someone can clear this up for me.

I also made a thread a couple weeks ago (see below) asking about the firmware available for the router and someone suggested "Victek's" firmware but I can't find much information on it. It appears to have bandwidth restriction features also.

Oh, so that was the website? I found it but some of it was in Spanish so I wasn't sure. I flashed the router with the firmware from the site and it seems to be working fine. It even kept my settings from the previous version so I don't have to config it all again which is cool. :)

Thanks.

The page is half spanish and half english due to the authors main language being spanish. Make sure you restore factory settings rather than continue to use your current ones after the flash - could cause problems in the future if not.

As Rab says do a factory reset, making sure to select the 'Thorough' option (erase NVRAM). It doesn't take long to set up again; make a note of your settings if you're not sure though, just in case. I only ever use Victek's Tomato, as it's based on the latest official Tomato release but with tweaks. Victek also includes the SpeedMod btw. :)
