I recently got a WRT54GL + AM200 setup that's working perfectly fine with no problems. I want to change the firmware to something like Tomato because of some of the features it offers.
I want a feature to restrict inbound traffic to certain users so the connection isn't choked. My internet connection is only 1MB so bandwidth is very limited when 3 or so people are using it at the same time. I would like to restict the bandwidth of users who download a lot (like my brother) so others don't suffer from servere slowdown.
Tomato seems to have a feature that will do this but going by what it says here (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Tomato_(firmware)#QoS_.2F_Access_Restrictions_Notes) it's not really really limiting bandwidth, just dropping packets. Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean that it's still downloading from the Internet connection at full speed but then just restricting what's get sent over the LAN/WLAN or something along those lines anyway? I'm hoping someone can clear this up for me.
I also made a thread a couple weeks ago (see below) asking about the firmware available for the router and someone suggested "Victek's" firmware but I can't find much information on it. It appears to have bandwidth restriction features also.
