There is a new firmware out for my wireless router, Speedtouch 585 and i have no idea how to upgrade the firmware.

Suggestions please. Thankyou.

Have a look here under Latest Firmware Release/Upgrade Wizards. Not 100% sure what you need, but I'd certainly try those.

Ok thanks that is what i was looking for. :)

Upgraded firmware. WLAN light is now always red instead of green, but laptop can still connect to the net so i don't mind.

In the choose a wireless network box it says my wireless network is unsecured. Wonder if this is why the led is red.

Immediately secure that wireless connection!

If you updated to the latest version of the firmware you should have a few options of wireless security. I can't remember on top of my head what options there is and since im at work I can't check it on my 585v6.

I wouldn't recommend using WEP in any form as its just not secure, its better than nothing. But I would recommend using one of the other methods.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have your wireless connection secured, so please enable it ASAP! Having the connection unsecured is like taping your pin number to your credit card.

Moving to ADSL24 next Tuesday, are these SP585v6 any good?

Does the firmware offer more in the way of line tweaks?

At the mo I have a Netgear DG834Gv3 to use but could change if these work better?

Thanks

Only got it working yesterday after having it for months. Wouldn't sync with my line for some reason. It's the 3rd or 4th router i've had, had Linksys, Netgear and something else, none of them would sync with the line until now, guess thats what i get for living in the country.

As for tweaking no idea.

BASMIC!!

You seem to be in the know when it comes to routers :)

What say you? :)
Personally I'd stick with a Netgear or Linksys with good, up-to-date software installed over some generic cheapo router supplied to me via my ISP.

But that's just my opinion. :)

Im with ADSL24 and im using the Speedtouch 585v6 and it works great.

I had a speedtouch 510v4 before and have found speedtouch routers to be easy to work with and also be able to squeeze the maximum out of your max connection.

To be honest most routers these days are easy to work with and will probably serve you well.

deadeyedic30 Got it sorted, the initial configuration is done via a program on the installation cd. Now its WEP'ed and the light be green.

Good that you secured the connection, but please change it to something more secure than WEP, the WEP encryption can be broken very easily with minimal effort for some one who wants to use your connection. The speedtouch has options for more secure encryption, and I strongly recommend using them if you are using the wireless connection.
