Ok, after much learning and going backwards and forwards (thanks for all the help so far) I think I'm settled on my first build.

Budget is around 500 notes and will be using primarily for FM14 and media hub. I'll be running through my 37" Full HD TV.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video Card
Case: Aerocool DS Cube Black Edition Silent Cube MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX
Optical: Pioneer BDR-208EBK 128GB 15x Multilayer BDRW

That comes in at around £560, so I think I've done ok.

I went round and round on the GPU, but I want to get a good 3-4 years out of it, would be grateful as always for your expert advice.

Much appreciated.

Sorry, but you're spending £100 on a PSU for a single card rig, while you're motherboard will struggle to cope with that 6300..

And overclocking is 100% out of the question.

Ill come up with something. Give me til 1PM. :)

Not sure about AMD micro atx motherboards. I will let someone else spec you one. Other option is to go intel route with an i3 for around the same cost.
Impossible to fit this build into the budget if you want that expensive blueray drive and case.
Not sure how you could have got to £560.

Thanks, all.

My budget was originally 500, but I stretched it a little. I can get to 560 by shopping around a little.

I scoured for the motherboard and got to only 4 options from a AM3+ mATX standpoint, the one I quoted, the M5A78L-M/USB3 the ASRock 880GM-LE FX and the Asus M5A88-M EVO (which is more expensive).

I can tone down the PSU no problem.

Cheers

Ok, got to this now...

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video Card
Case: Aerocool DS Cube Black Edition Silent Cube MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair 600 Watt Builder Series CX 600 Modular Power Supply
Optical: Pioneer BDR-208EBK 128GB 15x Multilayer BDRW

The board looks an awful lot better, and the PSU is cheaper. Doomedspeed the reason I went 600w+ for PSU is that the GPU recommends it, is this wrong ?

Total cost comes in at £581 as a couple of places are OOS, If I wanted to save any more cash, I could downgrade the GPU slightly.

Too much wattage is fine its when you dont have enough is when problems occur! say if you have bought your 600w psu and your rig is only using 480w then the rest just wouldnt be needed and not used

I think don't think the 270-x is worth the extra money if you overclock.
The only difference between the 270x and 270 is the x is clocked slightly higher and has 2 instead of one 6 pin power connectors. This could mean that the 270x will overclock slightly higher. However, from the reviews I have looked at the MSI gaming 270 will normally overclock as much as a 270x. You save 15 pounds and get an extra years warranty by buying the 270.
