first build help

just put my first build together, but it wont do anything. the green led is on, but the red led for the memory ony flashes on and the cpu fan comes on quickly then it goes off when i press the power button on :confused:

Try each stick of ram in each slot.

Do you have a speaker. Does it make any beep noise

As gardens says, but consult the user guide for your mobo as well.

Should be a section telling you what each LED means and what any beeping noises mean.

Sounds like it could be ram though if its taking power but not continuing to boot.

its a
i7 860
asus p7p55d-e
2x 2gb geil 1600mhz
the green led is boot device led
the red one is cpu led and dram led

ive tried taken the ram out, in different slots and one at a time all give the same outcome. the two red lights and the fan quickly flash on

as far as i can tel it doesnt beep when the speaker is conected

Take the ram out altogether see if it turns on and stays on. It should do by the way.

Try with no gpu as well

taken out ram and gpu, still the same

Take out everything even dvd writer and hard drive.
Just leave the cpu fan for it plugged in

see if it stays on.

Before that unplug the power and take out the battery for a min or 2 but it back in and see if it stays on.

unplugged everything, only the cpu, 24pin and 8 pin left conected also a power button. still have nothing, i took the battery out and put it back in then pressed the power button to boot it up. it just flashing every few seconds/fans quickly kick in. there are actually 3 red flashing leds.
any ideas?
