Hi, I have been away from Pc gaming for a while, now have cash and looking to get back in, building a rig for about 1200 that has a bit of head room for SIL, over clocking etc down the line. This is what I have so far.

1x MSI Geforce GTX 770 (£239)
1x i5 4670k (£170)
1x Asus Z87-pro (socket 1150) (£148)
1x seasonic G series 750w modular power supply (£100)
1x Crucial m500 120gb ssd (£62)
1x Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 1tb HDD (£43)
2x 4gb team group elite black 1600mhz ram (£50)
1x Bitfenix Ronin Tower case (£68)
1x Samsung x18 DVD ROM (£13)
1x Akasa internal card reader (£8)
1x Asus VS228DE 22" monitor ((£100)
1x windows 8 64 bit (£75)

other peripherals (£120)

total ~£1220

PSU is 750w so I can SLI relativity soon, at which time I will get a decent CPU cooler for over-clocking fun. Is there anything I am over or under speckling?

Opinions and advice would be great thanks.

Looks good though since you are spending around £1200 then you may want to go for a better monitor than a VGA-only 21.5in TN panel monitor. Perhaps something like a 24in IPS or 120/144Hz TN monitor.

Also, for the SSD the Samsung 840 Evo 120GB would be a better bet as its a fair bit faster and costs about the same. Though if your budget can bear it, the 250GB version of the Samsung would be ideal as the extra space on the SSD is really worthwhile IMHO (plus it is also faster and cheaper per GB). One way of affording this would be to scale down the motherboard to something like a Gigabyte Z87X-D3H or MSI Z87 G45 which cost around £108 and still offer good overclocking and two PCIE ports running at x8/x8 speed.

For the graphics card I would personally go for the R9 280X as it performs generally as well as the GTX 770, but has 50% more video memory.

Thanks, will look into monitors will have to read up on them tbh know very little about them. I think the Samsung is a better option over the critical so will swap that. The mother board was chosen for the onbord wifi as much as any thing else which I need and once you add in a wifi card the price difference over the cheaper boards is not that great.

The thing with wifi is that it's not really ideal if you want to play online games due to the latency it introduces.

Instead I would strongly recommend something like a powerline/homeplug kit. This kit gives you the same level of speed as wireless and almost no cables (need to plug it into power sockets), while also offering drastically lower latency. For example, this is a well liked kit.

Ethernet is ideal, but not awesome to live with without a fair bit of work. Wireless is simple, but with a wireless N system (like the one that comes with the Z87pro board) you may get ~40ms of latency due to the wifi system. In contrast, powerline offers latency of around 4ms.

I would have to agree with Doomed, that build is amazing i have an 4670k, and a 290 PCS+ and can recommend them both, theyre both incredibly good and compete with the high nvidia cards such as the 780, but i would recommend the Red SIDE!!
