Hi I built my first PC and am having a little problem regarding burnt out fan molex connectors and now no power (no light on mobo)
From what I can understand I believe it's my PSU causing the issues - but I would be really grateful for any knowledge given by others!
Specs:
AMD Phenom II x4 840
Asus M4A88T-M 880G mATX
Palit GTX 460 SONIC 1024MB
WD 500GB SATAII HD
Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3
Samsung SH-S223 22x DVD±RW DL SATA Optical Drive
3x Blue LED 120mm fans (found them to be generally cheaper than standard fans)
Arctic Power 600W PSU
Was using the build fine all week; until today my house mate says she can smell burning plastic (I cant cause I've been in the room on my PC for hours) - I panic turn the PC off and have a looksie inside (after grounding myself etc)
Attempt to disconnect side panel fans to take the panel completely away and find the molex pins burnt out (along with some of the plastic coating the outside of the molex connector) so now I really panic - disconnect everything and a little while later realise my mobo light will not come on. Check everything again - still nothing. Beginning to think it's my PSU, but being that it's my first build and it worked fine for a week I am now unsure. From the wattage calculators online it reckons I want a minimum 350W PSU but 4-500 would be ideal. I went for 600W to be on the safe side.
Does the PSU sound too low for the spec I have?
Can anyone shed any insight into what may be wrong?
Note: I haven't managed to test any components yet as it's a Sunday so all the shops are closed and I haven't managed to get any testing equipment
Thanks in advance! :]
