Hello
I have finished putting together the following components:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

MB-064-GI Gigabyte GA_945PL_S3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM

NEC ND3550 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Silver) - OEM

Asus TA-212 Series Midi Tower (Silver) - 360W PSU

BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

When I turn the power on it gets to the screen where it lists all of the components and then comes up with the error message "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". Also the dvd drive is not listed, just the hard drive. It doesn't eject and the led is not on. I connected the PSU to the dvd drive and an IDE cable connects the motherboard to the dvd drive.
The only other connection the motherboard manual mentions is the cd-in for audio, but there seems to be no cable to connect it unless you have to use the white 4 pin connector at the end of the power cable which doesn't reach.
Earlier when I checked the temperature of the cpu in was in the mid 70's. After reinstalling the heatsink it is now running at 20°C, it wouldn't have been damaged would it?

Please Help!
Thanks.

The system is searching for an OS and has found none, so its asking for you to provide one.

Hook up a floppy drive and Windows boot disk to get into the DOS prompt, or whack in your Windows XP disc into your DVD drive (making sure the drive comes before the hard drive in the boot order in the BIOS) and install Windows.

Edit: Oops just noticed your DVD problems. Take out and reseat the PSU and IDE cable. Is the drive all on one channel all to its self or is it sharing the one with the HDD? Make sure the IDE channel is not disabled in the BIOS.

Make sure the jumper is set correctly on the DVD drive too (i.e. master or cable select if it is alone) and that the cable is the right way around (pin 1 to pin 1, notch to notch).

For the DVD make sure it has its jumper set to Master
Make sure you have it plugged in IDE slot on the mobo properly aswell.

jumpers can be found on the back near the IDE connector and 4 pin Molex.

There should be a graphical guide printed on the drive somewhere. if not move the thingy to cover the "MA" pins.

Check the power molex is firmly inserted, swap it for another one if you have a spare if the problem persists.

The best way to install an OS is suggested above change the boot sequence and but your OS cd in and follow the instructions its pretty easy. Dont forget to set it back to how it was after its all installed.

dont panic ! ;)

I am assuming you have not installed an operating system on your harddrive yet? if you have installed an operating system it basically giving you this error msg because its not detecting you harddrive..

Perhaps you have plugged it into the wrong IDE socket on your mobo, recheck it or plug it into a diff ide cable on your mobo...

If it was badly damaged it simply wouldnt work...however depending on how long it was running before u saw the temps i doubt it has been damaged...

I finally got it to work! The power cable wasn't in fully and the IDE cable was not pushed in far enough. Thank you everyone for helping.
