First Build (random questions)

That's the easy part :p There really only is a few unique cables.

Sata - flat thin black connectors (used for hard drives and optical drives)

Molex - white 4 pin chunky connector (used for the above +fans, pumps, cathodes... and anything else really)

24 pin (into mobo)

4+4 [8 pin] (into mobo to power CPU)

6+2 [8 pin] (for graphics cards) *will be labelled PCI-E*

That's pretty much all that comes off of a PSU that is essential and that's what they're all for.

The hard part is keeping the cables out the way of everything else and keeping it tidy for optimum airflow/coolness.

For the graphics card, with the 2 pin cable can that just go anywhere seeing as there is no slot on my PSU for just 2 pins?

Nice!

Sort of lost you now. Some graphics cards require a 6 pin cable, some require an 8 pin and some require both a 6 pin and an 8 pin together.

Rather than a PSU maker putting lots of 6 pins and lots of 8 pins. They give you a 6 pin with a 2 pin extension... so you can either connect it up to the 6 to make 8 or just leave it loose. It's the same with the 4+4 for the CPU although some PSU's give you both anyway.

Hope that's clear.

Thanks all for the help everyone, wasn't that hard after all!

Hey guys.

Finally built it and it all seems to be working! Again, I have a couple of questons! :D

1, It booted from my old hard drive into windows 7, is this harmful? Also, while in w7 couldnt resist not right clicking on my computer. However it said for the CPU, "i7-2600k @ 3.40GHZ 3.7GHZ." Where has 3.7 come from??

2, It wont recognise my SSD in my computer. However was looking in bios and found it had recognised it in "IDE CHannel 4 Slave". Any ideas? I want to boot from this and install a fresh OS!

Thanks!

Can anyone help pleasee? :( Just staring at my computer isnt very fun! :P I've looked through bios but cant really see anything ?

Enabling ssd in bios

Hi ,

Reboot go into bios and follow this ,

SATA is found running at IDE MODE!" When the motherboard is set to its default values, the monitor will display a message during the POST, telling you the
SATA controller is running at IDE mode. The message that follows asks if you want to change it to AHCI mode and enable
hot plug functionality for the SATA connectors. Press <Y> to enable AHCI mode or <N> to continue IDE mode operation
and stop showing this message again.
Note: This message will appear again at next boot if you do not respond YES or NO in time.

It in the manual .....page 2.1...etc

Let us know how it goes
