Built first gaming rig a week ago. Everything installed correctly. Pc running perfectly for 4 days then when I started playing a game on ultra the screen crashed and then got no signal, but the pc carried on running. Tried resetting it but nothing worked. So turned off. When I turned it back on, I got one short post beep but no signal to monitor. It also didnt seem to boot into windows without signal. Went through all the usual troubleshooting, mem test on motherboard, reset CMOS, removed battery, etc, etc. still no signal. Tried different cables but still the same. Everything seems to be ok, all cables connected correctly, ie gpu, fans, etc, etc. all fans are running including gpu. It powers on with 1 short post beep every time. My parts are: CPU - fx6300 MOBO - asus m5a97 r2.0 GPU - xfx r7870 le (Tahiti) PSU - ******** PowerStation Gaming 500W Silent ATX2 Modular Power Supply MEM - g.skill ripsaws x 8gb 2 mods
I'm thinking it might be GPU, but would like some advice from you guys first before I send it back.

I'm afraid not. That's the problem I've got. Can't test my components on other machines. I'm pretty sure all my other components are fine due to the test I've perform with them. Eg mem test on MOBO, reset CMOS and removed MOBO battery to reset it. I'm also getting the short post beep, it all points to the GPU I think!!!!!

I'm afraid I have no integrated graphics on my motherboard, so I cannot test.
Tried other ports and tried putting GPu into other pci slot, still no signal. The fact it gives me one short post beep suggests that the CPU, memory and motherboard are fine. The psu seems ok as it powers everything ok. This has completely stumped me.

Is there any way you can get access to a spare PSU? as that would be my guess, as i had a very similar issue to this on first my old GTX 580 (which i assumed was broken when one day it crashed and would POST but just would not output a signal to my monitor at all, changed the 480 for a pair of 7950's and all was hunky dory, for about a week, then exactly the same issue returned.

I spent about 2 weeks faffing around, swapping the two cards over, completely dismantling and rebuilding the bloody rig not once did it cross my mind that it could be my PSU as it was a 1000w jobbie (wasnt a particularly cheap one either).

Then bought a corsair 860i and the system has been rock solid since (well apart from when playing BF4 :D )

The power rating is not the issue with most PSU's as mine should have had enough spare after running what i had to power a small country, but the 12v line was garbage and unstable which is what was causing the GFX issues as it would power the card and spin up the cooler but it just could not output any kind of image.

I would guess at PSU causing this problem too as I have had similar problems in the past, though the reviews for the one you have are generally good and in theory it should be able to power a single 7870. Unfortunately this is of course impossible to test without buying/borrowing an additional high quality PSU. When I built my current rig 2 years ago everyone thought I was mad spending £120 on one (Corsair AX850) however you have to remember a quality PSU (and case) will stick with you through years of upgrades or complete rebuilds, whereas a cheap unit may only last a year or two before degrading or going pop!

Perhaps you have a mate with a gaming rig who could lend you their PSU to test?

Yes I would think the PSU is not up to the Job, you could always buy one to test then send back the faulty one or if you find its the GPU send that back.

the xfx gpu has gone poof imo

doubt its the psu as they are pretty decent tbh(wouldn't rule it out completely tho)

you need to beg steal borrow another gpu or psu to test with
