This is my first build, so I have a few question:

Does the monitor come with a DVI cable, there is no where I can see specifying that it does, or does not.

Can the Western Digital RE2(RAID Edition) be used by itself/not in RAID?

Is everything compatible?

Any upgrades/Downgrades?

Also, I might be swapping the Card reader for a DVD-RW...

Hi and welcome to the forum :) Are you going to be doing any Gaming with this rig first of all before we make any recommendations? The monitor should come with the necessary cable to attach it to your Graphics card and usually includes a DVI to VGA adaptor if your stuck. I would suggest changing to this HDD instead and perhaps looking at a better Mouse such as a Logitech or similar but again it depends on what your using the PC for.

I will probably be doing a small amount of gaming, possibly GTA IV on mid/high settings, I looked and (I think) what I have is sufficient, but other than that, just the standard internet browsing watching films and what not. Is there any reason why you recommend that HDD? Also I would love to keep the budget under £450.
 
Monitors these days don't usually come with DVI or HDMI cables.
Or not the ones I've bought over the years never. Had verious different makes and usually only receive a VGA cable if I'm lucky. I'd look for a cable online if it doesnt come with the monitor since a lot of the shops usually charge a lot.
 
No way that card will run GTA IV on medium. It's doubtful it will run on low maybe even if you used 800x600.

You need something much more powerful to achieve GTA IV on high.

its a 5450 low profile as well, maybe upgrading it would be an option to something fully blown rather than low-profile, depending on budget of course.
 
Right, this is what I'm thinking of going with. And then somewhere down the line buy a GPU that can handle Mid/High gaming. Any other things I should change, or any tips on a first build?

I say run something like this for a month using the onboard GPU, save a bit more cash and stick a half decent gpu in it.

The only problem with that is the price. The reason I'm currently sacrificing a GPU is to keep the price low, that would just totally throw my budget out.
I changed the mouse to a Logitech MX518 and keyboard to Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard, and I'm basically on the edge.

went back to that other harddrive, unless your using disk performance benchmark programs I doubt you would notice the difference, and that motherboard is good too.

so you now have a bigger monitor, keyboard and mouse and a bigger more solid computer case that will last longer through many builds.

then save about £90 and stick a ATI 5770 in it.

Thanks, I changed it to that, but the only thing I'm not sure about is the mouse and keyboard, it may be better than the ones I had originally but they're wireless. I don't really want to be replacing the batteries a lot, the lag between them (If later on I'm going to be playing games this could be a problem?). I'll go with it for now, but if there is anything better, for around this price please do say.

Never thought about batteries and any associated wireless lag, good point!!!

I also put the DVI cable in as a review said it didn't come with one.

I'm not sure. I'd rather have a monitor with DVI, as VGA is quite old and since I would be upgrading the GPU later on, the onboard one doesn't really matter as it's only temporary.
