Hi, yesterday whilst dropping my daughter off at school, I pulled into this empty side road/lay-by and put the car in reverse. I started reversing at approx 3 mph and felt a bump as a car pulled up right behind me.
I got out of the car and this lady was already pen and paper in hand for my details. I accept it was my fault as I should have been glued to my mirrors and have elected to pay outside of insurance as I have just signed up with a new company. It was the Right front side I hit

That night, her husband dropped a quote through my letterbox from somewhere (there is no letter head or contact number on the sheet. Luckily she lives nearby so I was able to sneak a couple of photos of the damage to her car as I overlooked it at the time.
The reason for posting this is that I want to know whether I am being screwed by somebody here. when you consider, there is no damage to my car whatsoever and I backed into her at no more than 3-5 mph.

Her car is a 2008 VW Polo
The quote is as follows:

PARTS LIST
FRONT BUMPER £168.79
R/F AIR GUIDE GRILLE £18.20
FRT CTR COWL GRILLE £29.41
R/F BUMPER GUIDE £6.88
LEFT HEADLAMP ASSY £94.03??
Sundry Parts £6.35

COSTS
LABOUR £123.90
PAINT & MATERIALS £179.81
PARTS £323.66

TOTAL £623.37
V.A.T £125.47
GRAND TOTAL £752.84

Bumper damage

This all seems rather excessive, appreciate any comments thanks.

Looks like they are trying it on.
I know you are not going to like this, but get your insurance company involved and let them deal with it.

If the headlamp cluster is anything like that on my Golf, you can snap the clips that hold it in place by breathing too heavily nearby, so it's entirely possible the headlamp cluster has been damaged by a small shunt.

Go push the bumper back in at night then send chips away round for the scuff

Realistically tell them the quote is three times what you expect and that you will contact insurance to deal with it

Get more photos , really struggling to see how that needs a full bumper

It "could" definetly cost that much for a 100% showroom condition job mind .especially at VW. Wouldn't pay it out your own pocket though and would get insurance to sort it as they can challenge any 'dodgyness'

Thanks for the replies. just wondering why the left would be damaged if my bump was on the right corner.

Oh I'm sorry, I misunderstood what your bold was indicating.

Could it be that they're looking as if standing in front of the front of the car and you're looking as if from inside the car?

Lol taking the **** just slightly. Insurance it mate and get any damage to your car sorted that way too and it'll probably cost you less. Also as it'll probably get mentioned to her insurer her premiums will go up too even if not her fault. That'll learn em for taking the ****.

Doesn't look like a scuff to me, looks like a bolt or something has pressed through from the rear damaging the bumper.

If it was my car that had been damaged by a third party then I would just want it repairing to as it previously was, it is concievable that there is further damage to the light you cannot see.

I had someone reverse into my front wing on one of my cars, looked like the wing was just pressed in with no paint damage, but when I looked at it further it had damaged the headlight mounting, the trim under the light and the bumper mount slightly.

I'd just take it through insurance, seems like too much hassle to do otherwise.

Hang on a minute.

If you were reversing, and she pulled in behind you she drove into you.

Tell her to get bent and that she needs to fix her own sodding car or go through her insurance.

Exactly something has come through from behind. Most likely a bumper support bar which might be bent too. That isn't just a scratch.
