Hey im looking at cars, i passed my test about 2month ago and been driving my dads 06 focus 1.6. (insurance about 120 a month i think). Anyway i have turned 18 recently and i THINK i have about 2k in my bank account that i am now allowed to get!

Not 100% sure if my rents will let me use this money (spoke to mum shes like talk to dad lol) but im looking at cars for this price range.

Anyways, i have always liked clios and been having a look, i found this

RENAULT Clio 1.2, V reg.
And it seems like an awsome deal, only 32k on the clock, my fav colour of clio and 6month of tax.
What do you guys think of 1.2 clios? What are they like? Insurance cheap?

When looking at cars what mileage should i look for? I know if its high mileage but mostly motorway miles isnt as bad, but just for the sake of argument normal driving mileage.

I did like the look of puntos but heard the 1.2 puntos suck big time?

and a corsa........well you guys hate them so will stay away? :p

Well the standard Punto 1.2 8v is 60hp is a bit gutless to say the least...

Corsa's, they may be hated on here, but there not that bad IMO. :o

Hows that an 'awesome' deal? It's a 7 year old bottom of the range Clio with windup windows and it's 2 grand.

I'd pay no more than a grand for it. Get a better spec Clio for less money.

I dont know how much the facelift Clio will sell for:

But there are 51 regs knocking about with that front and rear end, plus they look more with it, rather than something our grandparents would drive.

And as a result cost way more than £2k.

For 2K you can get something better. Don't get the standard Clio. As Fox said, they don't come with PAS or electric windows. I picked up a 1.4RT S reg 73K, FSH for £1700 last year. The 1.4 would be good choice considering the difference between that and the 1.2 in terms of insurance is not much. Plus, after a while, you might get sick of the lack of power. :)

My housemate has a 1.2 clio almost exactly like the one you posted. It's gutless, pieces are falling off it and it's not hugely nice to be in. However it is very practical and pretty cheap to insure and run. I wouldn't be seen dead driving one, but it would probably make a good first car (except pay less).

it will be used for going to work and college etc. as well as trips to cinemas and usual stuff like that. But also it will be used to go to my girlfriends on the motorway, she lives in oldham im from huddersfield.

Nissan Almera might be worth a look if image aint your thing, depeneds if you want to do some work on the car or not, i would be tempted to go the older route...

You can get just about get a 98 406 coupe for that money fair enough it will have 100k on the clock but its a million times better than that Hyundai thing.

I like mine, but I wouldn't be tempted until a few years NCD is acquired. They are not cheap to run or insure.

you're having a laugh aren't you? she lives in oldham, you live in huddersfield.......two towns connected by an AWESOME road in the form of the a640, yet you take the boring motorway? :(

fez 1.25... ghia's can be had for about 2k, maybe mk5 one if you push it. Will get you A to B fine and manages fine on the motorway for its engine size. A lot nicer than the clio you linked to imo.
