You can. It might not be advisable if you're truly inept/just starting out, but I'm pretty sure it isn't illegal.

.

Go on then, why is that obvious? (its not true by the way, provisional license holders can drive a car with whatever cylinder configuration they wish)

Nothing wrong with Autos as first cars. I passed in a manual, then drove my parents' cars for 3 years whilst at uni which were Auto/Semi-Auto.

My first car after uni was a manual which took me a while to re-learn, but wasn't too much of a chore.

Nice first car btw :)

Nice car m8... Shame on it being an auto tho :p

And if you dont mind me asking... you're a student, so I assume you're still like 18 - 21? i gotta say m8, that will prolly be a lot to insure, surley?!

If you can afford the insurance you can drive whatever you like. Admittedly there aren't many insurers that would want you as a customer, but some specialist companies would.

Erm, they are generelly used in engines producing lots of power
Need I go any further?

Someone I was at school at the age of 17 had a 4.2L Jaguar XJS Convertible for his first car. L plates and all.

His dad owned an insurance company.

Sorry, but you are mistaken.

There are no restrictions on a provisional license relating to the car, other than its got to display L plates.

You could learn to drive in an Enzo if you have it insured.

I don't think he's saying there are restrictions, he's just saying that it's pretty silly to be driving that kind of car on a provisional.

Hell, I had an auto as my first car (took a manual test, mind) ...never done me any harm! Hopped straight back into one of the Sprints and I was off! Only took a little while to remember everything, you don't forget it that's for sure! :D

Nice motor, hope you enjoy it and drive safe! Just cause it's an auto doesn't mean you can't get into trouble :p
