Now, i remember seeing a few posts about the 306 not being up to much. But dont shoot me before i even start. This was my brothers car, he was getting lessons and was about to take his test but got offered a place in uni. I've just turned 17, and turns out i have to "look after" his car for 3 years.

I'm not complaining seeing as i get it for free, it's a Pug 306 1.4 Meridian 5d. I'm only going to be using it to get from A-B, and College transport.

The only thing i was considering doing to it were to change the 14" steelies for some nicer wheels? Nothing extreme.. maybe similar ones to the GTi?

Opinions welcome :)

this is my mates pug with 17" tsw wheels on. Quite common but suit it a lot

My wife has the same car - not bad really and quite economical.

yeh its a great car. The best value for money on a first car imo is a pug 306 1.9tdi

Can be remapped and the turbo screwmodded for a few hundred squids and can get upto 140/150bhp. Providing you buy an uprated intercooler. The car can be had for about £1000 aswel

1998 306 1.9 DT

-Front mounted intercooler with polished stainless pipework,

-Derv Doctor Twin Piston dump valve system,

-Piper Fast Road Cam kit,

-Helix Autosport organic uprated clutch kit.

-Turbo Dynamics T2-25 hybrid Turbo with modified exhaust manifold,

-Modified 406 1.9 DT inlet manifold,

-Modified high flow Bosch injectors and modifed Bosch fuel pump,

-One off induction pipework,

-De-Cat down pipe and Magnex system with 6"x4" Oval tail pipe,
bullet

-Derv Doctor / Nitrous Oxide Systems 35 bhp nitrous system with dual stage fuelling.

-ERL Aquamist 1s water/methanol injection system.

160 bhp + 35 bhp N O S!

160bhp before N OS. yes it is some doc. Why not ask for proof before posting sarcy comments?

That little lot will cost a lot more than the car did, and is certainly going to set you back over a "few hundred" quid.

your right but my mate likes his pugs....A LOT. Got a while before he can get insured on a gti6 so this is the route hes taking. Minus the N O S (why is N O S a banned word  )

Lexus lights too by the looks of things....how many horses do they add?

[edit] Oh and with all that gubbins his insurance premium must be pretty large i would have thought!

That's the point I was making with my admittedly sarcastic comment.

lol yeh we got slightly off topic. My original point was that 17" tsw's suit pug 306's very well

EDIT - Telsa, fe point taken.
I don't want you to think I am 306 bashing as I think they are very good cars but, those TSW alloys look dreadful.

The Sporty model (GTi-16?) has some sort of curvy 5 spokes, those suit the car very well.
