First Car

Utterly stupid idea paying 4k on a car at 17, save the money for more important things in life, keep it in the bank, get a 306 or something like that (£900-1000 for r/s/t reg in good nick), deisal 306 TD, tidy and reasonbly powerful 1st car, still got mine, good on insureance as well.

I know what all you guys are saying about not spending much but there is no way around it... id rather keep the money in the bank but dad being an arse and im spending that much.

Yeah i tried quinn... seemed a little more expensive... but that was a while a go so i shall give it a go.

EDIT: A little expensive... I lied, this is a quote for a Citroen C2 1.1 SX fully comp

Hahaha.... That's classic :D I think it's safe to say you're doing something wrong pal ;)

Lol how can I do something wrong... I know my details lol Seriously it's stupid Quinn Direct is out of the question. I had a similar price from the AA and they rang me up about 10 mins later and asked if i wanted to buy it haha the cheek of it.

THIS WORKS FOR SURE

you need to add an existing driver to your policy as a named driver.

Say your mom, or dad, they dont have to use the damn thing, just get their name on it and watch the insurance prices tumble

worked for my little bro, he put me on, and saved 1200 big ones

Tried that... costs more if i put them on as named drivers because im still the main driver. And because they wont be driving it at all then it is in fact fraud if you put them as the main driver and you as a named one + u dont get no claims discount if you are a second driver.

Do you have driving convictions and what is your post code?

What is the first 3/4 letters of your postcode? It would give us an indication if it’s Beirut or the West Country.

The reason why you insurance is so stupidly high is because your going fully comp on expensive cars. Getting TPFT on a 1.6/2.0 litre Focus really is the way to go. If you can justify 4-6k on the car and 2-3k on insurance you could trash three Focuses for the same money. If your Dad is adamant on going for Fully Comp and getting such an expensive car, ask him why. There is nothing shabby about a Focus as a first car when most of us have Cheap French tat or Micra-k’s.

nahh mate it works,

when I first passed my test, I had an escort 1.3, tpft for me was £1200, I added the mrs on as a second driver (she's older than me, and had her liscence for 4 years)

with her on a second driver it came down to £357 tpft...

my bro was quoted £1700 tpft, on a rover sli 1.4, put me on with, and he paid £500...

im only on as the second driver, so no fraud on his policy....

It works, try some less well known insurers

Why would you want fully comp on your first car anyway, thats whats pushin your premium up even more...

EDIT: manchester = ripp off insurance, same as london..... gutted for ya.

Ok your in a 5b area which is quite bad for insurance purposes.
Lots of idiot chavs around your way or lots of cars being broken into / stolen?

Hmm i suppose its a thought i'll speak to him about looking at a focus maybe later see what he says she if i can talk some sense into him.

As for were I live the Area is Failsworth which is full of chavs but i live in a little villege just outside... but im surrounded by rough areas, Hollinwood, Limeside, Drolysden, Moston, New Moston, Newton Heath. So its pretty ****. But there is a lot of house burgalaries round here cos its fulla old people.

why dont you spend 2k ona car and use the other 2k to insure it then?

4k car at 17 will probably get wrecked anyway, then you'll be gutted when it gets crashed or you come to sellit and its worth a fraction of what you bought it for.

first car should always be a cheapo IMO, dont matter what happens to it then.

Everyone says this but I've found personally (im also 17) it just adds to the quote (albeit a tiny bit).

Anyway @OP.

Try eCar and Endsleigh for quotes. They are the cheapest for me.

Anyway, wouldn't you be better of getting something cheap, TPFT insure it for a year. Get 1NCB and get a better car with cheaper insurance in 12months?

Infact eCar do "pay as you go" cover which gives you 1year NCB after 8months. The monthly premium is more expensive but becuase it's only 8months it works out the same/a tad cheaper than 12months.

Also considered doing pass plus if you haven't already, probably knock a fair amount of your quotes.

As for cheap cars to insure, I've personally found Corsa's, Focuses, Astra's and Clio's. (as well has all the normal hatchbacks)

If you absolutly insist on a nearly new car how about Pegeut 107?

Like I said ill have a chat with the old man later let him know what you guys have said... cos even I aint to fussed... anything gotta be better than a chaved up bus smellin of ****

As for the pass plus i don't see the point in doing it... all the quotes ive done with pass plus on there its knocked £100-£200 off so i after paying out for the pass plus ive saved around £50-£70 dont see the point.
