First Car

Everyone says this but I've found personally (im also 17) it just adds to the quote (albeit a tiny bit).

maybe they have become aware of the amount of people doing this.... and tightened up on 17 year olds with named drivers.

It worked for my bro not 12 months ago though, which is odd.

Possibly... either way insurance upto about £3k aint really an issue im only paying half. so just the car Ill have a look into the following:

C2
Focus
Fiesta
Yaris
Clio

And see what the insurance is like 3rd party.

IMO Saying the car is worth £4000 to the insurers is probably why your quotes are so high anyway. A lot more expensive if you crash it basically.

I'm looking at first cars and I'm looking at cars no more expensive than 2.5k and my insurance quotes with direct line are coming out between £1500-£2000 fully comp (on things like focuses and 306's)

are you 17 though?

Explains it then.. Its a manchester postcode, my mate lives in M8, and his insurance on a focus is just shy of 2.1k

Yeah i read sumwere that Manchester postcodes are like the second highest insurance premiums in the UK... Fing is tho if i lived a mile down the road were all the chavs are, my insurance would be a lot cheaper because it would be a OL postcode

Have you done pass plus? If you havent' then I would seriously look into doing it.

That usually pays for itself many times over in insurance savings. Usually equivalent to 1 years NCB.

Have you dont a quote with elephant or tescos?

They've always been far cheaper than everyone else I've tried.

Plus, how many miles are you putting in?

As long as it pays for itself its worth it imo.

Could mean the difference between writting your car off one day and not.

And if its paying itself off on the insurances then theres little to loose! :)

I supposed u guys got a point... one thing tho when u do a quote on direct line it doesnt actaully ask u if you done your pass plus jus a choice of full uk and provisional... so if i have to ring them up and buy it over the fone then i loose the 10% online discount so it deafeats the object again.

Well if direct line are the cheapest insurers (Which for a 17 i very much doubt) then don't bother.

But like I said, regardless of the insurance side of things It'll give you some training and experience and stuff you won't necessarily have already. Becuase no offence, but you don't know it all. Pass plus won't teach you it all but it's a start.

no not tired them will give them a whirl... im putting in about 7000 miles

That's another reason for such high quotes. That's quite a lot of annual mileage for a 17 year old.

Do you work/able to walk to work? Setting the insurance to social, domestic and pleasure can bump a fair amount off a policy.

I also recommend doing PassPlus. Even though the discount off my insurance was only around £80, the experience was invaluable. It was very enjoyable too.
