First car?

I'm looking to buy my first car.

I'm not sure if I want to buy a second hand car or do a contract where you pay monthly for a car, then after 2/3 years get another one (So you never own the car).

My dad works for Ford so he can get me good discounts on all Fords. I've just passed my test so I've got to keep insurance in mind

Thinking of getting a fiesta.

I have 2-3k to spend if I get a second hand car.

What should I do. :confused:

Buy a second hand car. If you're buying a new car you'll want fully comp insurance and the prices are prohibitively high for new drivers. Get a 1.25 fiesta for £1500 and run it into the ground.

apart from its quite hard to drive a 1.25 fiesta into the ground, i tried over the course of owning mine... it wasn't having any of it though

still going strong to this day!

VW Golf, Fiesta, Civic, or get a proper car..... a Mini!!!! (Not the crappy new BINIS though!)

you could get an early old shape Focus for £3k...

Unless you have the money to run one I'd be very warey of doing this. I've got a mini as a first car and it has cost a fair bit to get "sorted". They also command a price premium due to their image...

Looking at getting a Focus mk2 1.6 or 1.8 Zetec for my first car, as im almost 30 insurance isnt that steep at only around 800 fully comp so its tollerable.

Focuses make good first cars. Easy to drive, practical, comfy, plenty of value for money

I was very happy with my Mk1 focus as a first car. They are very very easy to drive, had the most forgiving clutch and gearbox of any car I've driven.
