First car

I spent £2400 on my first car - Megane 1.6 Sport Alize on a V plate from an auction in Kent. Nice little run around and insurance wasnt too bad (group 7 so cost about a grand TPFT).

If i was in your position then i would definitely spend about the same again, however as stated above, you can get a lot more for your money nowadays.

I would cry if I spent £5k and looked out the window and saw a Mk1 Focus. Good cars, great cars infact but there is absolutely no point spending £5k on one these days when a tidy 2003 is £3k.

I was thinking more an ST170, or have decent examples of these also fallen through the floor?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO do not spend £12,000 on your first car.

Spend £2-3k, buy something like a Fiesta, enjoy it for a year or two, then pop along to the bank, withdraw the £9-10k you've got left over and buy something nice.

fox is always right guys....

It would be silly to buy a 10-15k car now, most new drivers suffer some sort of mess up. Even if its a minor scratch, its gona hurt a lot more on a 15k car than it will on a old banger.

Cant see why he'd need one of those as a first car, stupid insurance as well, its Group 15 for some retarded reason.

He's been driving for 2 years, so its his first car of his own but not the first car he's experienced.

Didn't realise they were so high up the insurance group though, thats a bit silly!

Yeah sorry if the title was mis-leading. It is my own first car but I do have driving experience. I just need no claims so low insurance groups = good.

To be fair, with Bell/Admiral, you can get stupidly good quotes even without no claims, so long as you arn't 17 (they quote me stupid prices), so higher performance cars arn't out of the question.

£5k is OTT for a mk1 focus, I paid £4300 for my private 05 Focus Mk1 with 40k mileage - great car tbh.

Another vote for used Fiesta or Focus. Some mega bargains to be had, other half recently picked up a 1.4 Zetec MK4 Fessy SI for £1200. Spotless car, drives well and has a decent amount of poke for what she needs.

What insurance group are you looking at? £12/13k can get a lot of car ;) About what I bought my Impreza for a few weeks back.

lots of idiots in this thread...

HE HAS NOT JUST PASSED HIS TEST.

However is it really worth spending 13k on a car when it sounds like you will not really benefit much more than if you were to say spend 5k.

Also buying a new diesel fiesta isn't exactly going to be powerful.. :p Even if it is an 'ST' model..

I'll say it again...

Fiesta ST!

Spent £6-7K and you'll pick up a decent, nippy little car with a great looking interior. Without a doubt my next purchase :)
