Hi,

In the not to distant future I'm planning to build my fist build

I was thinking of starting with an Antec 300, but having seen some comments regarding cable management within it I'm not sure.

What case would people recommend as a first case, but with good for cable management?

Regards

cable management is part case and part what your planning on having inside the case, are you just upgrading your case or doing a fully new system?

Sorry....

This is what I plan to build....

I have an Antec 300, without modding, it's the worst modern case for cable management I've seen.

Mine looks ok, it's had a lot of work done though.

As I said, I've now seen a few comments regarding its lack of cable management.

My config was done before I'd seen these, so just wondered what other cases are better for it.

I have a lian li PC7FN and it has fantastic cable management. However, it could really do with a top fan (either an easy mod, or you can buy a top panel with a 140mm grill installed by lian li). I really like the case, good desk-top sized, minimalistic and black!

TheCoolerMaster 680 II is a good solid first case for cable management, I've built a few systems in them and they are very good for management.

With a thousand quid to spend on components, why are you looking at £40-50 cases? If it is the looks of the case that you like, then check out the Lian Li, Silverstone, Corsair etc. cases too. They all do nice understated cases. I really like the Antec 300, but without cutting some holes in it you will struggle with the cables, even with a modular PSU such as the one you've chosen. A Titan and a 5870 will fit, but it will be a little cramped. The 300 is actually quite a compact case.

Fractal design R2/3 is good for cable management (primarily due to the number of holes surrounding the MB tray), but the space between the back of the MB tray and the side panel is a little limited due to the sound deadening material. Look for those features though, as it will make it easier to build in without having to cut access holes.

Thanks for all your replies, appreciate it.

Ignoring my original choice £40-50, what would be the best case to compliment my spec...

Requirements are: -

  1. Understated
  2. Easy/Good Cable Management
  3. Enough room to add 2nd GPU within 6 months
  4. Good/Reasonable cooling

From the replies so far there doesn't seem to be any clear front runner.

I really want to avoid having to cut holes into a case, don't see the point of buying a case and then having to cut it up to fit the guts, would rather spend the extra on a case to suit.

This fits all those criteria, however it is expensive and out of stock.

Do you really need the extra feutures from win7 pro as if not then get win7 basic 64 bit oem and save around £85. Put it towards a much higher quality case.

I need it for running Oracle and work EPOS software for work.

BTW what's the difference between the Lite & Advanced (i.e. CM 690 II)?

But I've heard good things about that CM case &, OP you should seriously consider it. Meets most of your requirements besides, its recommended to invest in a suitable case that should see you through current & future upgrades/builds i.e. a case, like say a PSU, should last years.

Have been looking at the CoolerMaster CM-690 II Advanced Dominator

Which I presume is the successor to the 680?

Looking at the details, pictures & reviews it seems to fit the bill.

Looking at the pictures the 'Lite' comes with lights?

Onething I have seen two reviews, is that it can't fit the HD5970. Will it take the card I've choosen, if so what about 2 of them?

I have the 680 Case and its fantastic on cable managment and its really good
for keeping your system cool due to the size of it and the amount of fans that
can be put into the case as well, i would definately recommend spending the
extra money if you can and get the 680.
