First Core i7-980X CPU Review ?

There is also one over at Bit-Tech

haha,
"so the i7-980X shows up as 12 process threads in Device Manager rather than just eight."

first mistake already
3rd paragraph in!!!

Looks exciting so far.

Thanks for post, never realized that they have been reviewing these things yet.

More importantly, a stock 920 rocks for most, OC and its a potential monster, now the 930 has replaced that, there seems to be no compelling reason to upgrade to a 980 for most sensible people at the price its expected to sell for!

Intel's i7-980X is a fairly safe design. I imagine it will find a place in several new systems, especially workstations, from what benchies show; but at that price, most of us will get a better deal just around the corner.

With accurate GPU computing maturing also, it is hard to see a future for toys like these in the years to come. ;)

Would love one of these but as others have said insane price tag. Especially considering it doesn't cost Intel "that" much to manufature taking into account that it is not only a 32nm design which is cheaper to manufature but also the technology is nothing "new". I guess what's really behind the price tag is the "extreme" sticker. Wait until the 970 and it will probably be around 300-400.

At least programs these days are programmed for multi-threaded use. When quad cores were first released they were simply a waste of space for any application. At least the I7 980 does actually have it's uses.

It is also worth pointing out the frequent mention of new Xeon processors to be soon released for LGA1366. They will quite happily sit in a dual socket workstation / server boards from Biostar or similar. If the price on them is right, it may be just the way to go for that 'Extreme' tag. But then again, we will be talking silly sums.

Rather get an overclocked 4ghz+ Corei7-930 bundle, cheaper and proberly just as fast in most cases.

Would be nice if AMD catched up already if anyone can bring a affordable option too the market and soon its them.

A nice bundle and a beefy GPU make a good team, in my opinion! :) It is also worthwhile looking at SSD for the money. Intel offer one of the better integrated RAID solutions on the market, provided you care about that particular feature.
