First day It support...

Either way, if you're willing to give up a perfectly good job over something like that, when so many are without, you're a mentalist.

Not at all.. this isn't a sympathetic world. If he could find other employment, why not?

Unless you are suggesting he just quits without looking for another job, which is sheer lunacy even in a good market, are you?

Putting Windows 7 on is a stupid suggestion.

It will expire next year, and require a reinstall.

Agreed, and in a corporate environment, installing a new Windows OS before the first SP comes out is madness, SHEER MADNESS!

Also, if it's vista business (I believe that's the correct term) then it's legal.

Even if it's not legal, just bloody do it, plead ignorance if pulled up on it, some of the gold resellers I've spoken to don't fully understand microsoft licencing so they won't be surprised if a newbie doesn't!

This is taken from Microsoft.com.
Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you'll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You'll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

There you go, read deeper next time. :)

If it's Vista business or ultimate, you have downgrade rights. The chances are you probably aren't doing anything illegal.

Agreed. Pretty standard in the Corporate environment. Our Dells come with Vista Business installed and we put an XP image on them - all perfectly legal.

Glad I didn't employ you when we were looking for technicians!

\o/

He is a perfect candidate for the Public Sector though :p :D. Some of the people i've worked with/interviewed makes you wonder how they manage to tie their shoelaces in the morning...

I've been an IT professional for six years, and in that time I've learnt a thing or two, so I'm going to save you a lot of time and tell you this now;

Become a farmer. It's far, far less depressing.

If they have Windows Vista business you can downgrade it to XP. It's legal. The Vista CD key will even work with XP Pro...

If staff are found using illegal software is it not still the company that is held responsible?

It's not like their asking you to murder anyone!

What he said, 4 years in and I hate my life :p

Change vista to windows [xp] without paying, not sure what their setup is they might have licences on the boxs buttt still doesnt fill me with confidence...

Suggest windows 7 maybe, if free download is still on?

Deploying a RELEASE CANDIDATE into a live environment is not a wise idea, anything beta or RC should not be deployed.
