First Driving Lesson

Best advice ever

Driving is NOT easy, its far from it, its a skill that needs to be learned and not abused.. nothing easy at all..

It's really not difficult at all. Just look at the morons out there who passed driving tests. Anyone can do it.

That's coming from someone who can drive and holds a licence though.

Everyone says "Its so easy, l1o1o1o11!!l". The simple fact is, for someone who's never driven a car before, it can be a fairly daunting prospect. I didn't learn to drive for a while, but I spent a lot of time in the cars of friends who passed at 17. Knowing the mechanicals of a car and watching friends do it I thought "yeah, nothing to it". Come my first lesson, I felt pretty overwhelmed, despite my technical knowledge.

Now, after almost 2 years of driving, its easy and it's hard to imagine ever not knowing how to drive. But for a first timer, there's lots to learn.

But you're right, given the amount of idiots out there, it cant be that hard to pass a driving test. Im still a supporter of harsher driver education in this country.

Kind of same here, I didnt take a lesson until I was 22 as I was at uni and didnt need to drive, and the theory of driving is pretty simple, getting it right though is an art, glad you enjoyed your lesson though chopper and good luck with your continued learning.

You dont learn driving until you past your test. Basically you've learnt from a book more or less. Once you pass and get a car you learn your own style. Which i have. I find it to be a lot more economical and easier to live with than driving by the book. " hands on the wheel etc.

Blimey you lot were spoon fed on your first lessons!

I had a couple of minutes of "this is the clutch" stuff, then I had to drive it along main 60mph single carriageways, he even got me to overtake someone

The only time my instructor ever drove the car while I was in it was back from the test centre after I'd passed my test.

I was taught in a Kia pride. Awful thing!

I'd done the big busy roundabout near my house by the end of my first lesson. I was onto manoeuvres within about 2-3 lessons :]

I'm awaiting the comments from the elitest folk:

"I never ever stall" "I had 3 lessons and I never stalled in any of them and then I passed first time with zero minors"

I've achieved stardom for epic stalls ( :D )with some mates who've sat with me whilst tired or just complacent at times. I used to be concerned about that when i was 17, but now.. meh. :D Saying that, i might stall a few times if i drive a manual now as i have'nt owned one in about 2 yrs, current focus is an Auto. Passed first time with a few minors in 98 lol.

You dont learn driving until you past your test. .

I had the opposite problem, drove my dads car (well stole it a a lot) since 14 and learned to drive on a few vans. In the caribbean for 1/2 year i drove a whole lot too before 17 as it was more in the countryside where those things were overlooked :) By the time i took lessons i was a hardcore idiot driver with every bad habit in the book :D

I had less than 10 before the guy was ok with me to take a test but like i posted i had a lot of previous. 4 hours/lessons without previous experience is a bit iffy to believe tbh.
