several, primarily better shading and lighting techniques, image quality improvements under compression. the main advantage is the way games are built under DX10, its a hell of a lot easier for the producers of games to make DX10 titles than it was to make DX9 due to a more unified coding base.

Oh right. Thanks for that, I didn't realise it was that significant.

Isn't vanguard:soh going to have dx10 features? Pretty sure I read that somewhere..

But anyway vanguard is supposedly out at the end of january so i think that would be one of the first dx10 games out.

which is why everyone is getting annoyed just like me, im not upgradeing to vista till there are service packs avalible, and by the time this happens, il have to suffer with my 8800 GTX's playing crysis with pantsy dx9
Crysis 2008 honey :/

ps. stay on topic guys!

Really don't understand why people say this. What if there is only a few updates ever needed and they don't make a SP, you'll never get it?

The day Microsoft release an operating system thats actually finished and bug free is the day pigs trully will start to fly.

:) that isn't what I meant, of course they'll be a service pack. WinFS for one reason. What I mean is vista will be (and is) more than fine at release. Just like XP was fine at launch too.
